I recommend your channel to all martial artists as one of the few on YouTube who actually know what they are talking about. Most BJJ folks, in my experience, don't know kuzushi well or at all.

Although I’ve been a fan of yours and watching your YouTube channel for 12-13 years, and the movie came out 10 years ago, you give me Equalizer vibes

Absolute facts. No fat to trim on this video 🙏

Although I primarily have a "boxing background", I grew up the youngest (and smallest) of 4 brothers and naturally due to my position in that heierarchy I often found myself having to grapple against my bigger (and stronger) older brothers, as well as some of my peers and contemporaries whom thought they could take advantage of me due to my stature. Needless to say my life has been a "crash course" in grappling due to these circumstances and have come to "understand" these principles you have stated in this video. It's nice to know that I'm on the right track. As Always, Thank You Mr. Carmen for sharing a lifetime of wisdom and experience of both the nature of the world as it actually works, and the Relation it has with the martial arts. Much love to you and yours 🙏

As soon as you asked what the jab of grappling would be I thought underhook and that's exactly where you went. I like the way you think. I also love how accurate you are about teaching martial arts history.

I have no knowledge of wrestling. Please tell me how a D1 wrestler can often times beat a jiujitsu person. I study Gracie Jiujitsu and always want to improve. Great video as always.

Been watching your videos for years, you are one of the rare voices who speaks the truth when it comes to martial arts and one of the rare voices who genuinely knows what they are talking about. Keep up the education brother, there's a lot of fakesters out there.

This video is so informative and it's condensed in such a way you have to rewatch the whole thing over and over just to comprehend what he is saying. Anyway I'm just trying to point out how you explained the key details of grappling so well in only 11 minutes.

I don't do grappling/ground fighting but I definitely 100% agree with you on Transitions. I do wing chun and I was invited by a couple of friends of mine to open mat for BJJ. I noticed that when people do transitions, they leave gaps in order to make it easier for your opponent to recover. This is also in Wing Chun. I'll have to save this video. Great Advice!

I like how you asked what the “jab” of grappling is, I love boxing and I’ve been doing bjj for 1 years now but I’ve never asked myself that

As one who relates to combat in similar ways your out put is well received and your input respected, we used to scrap in school regularly almost frequent as assembly that was daily ( pre 10 years of lifetime ) this mma style is a watered down version actually ( edit : in the sense of no tools of sorts) and the staged fight scenes seem to journey just to come to the original way as children that we were as do at least most things in life a kick is just a kick, always liked fighting arts as a way of expression ). Felt better after a good old exchange of force much of the time however we were closer to our original essence in the way of being uninfluenced by the lies/false truths of what you may refer to as the dunya, one calls it the world. Would absolutely endorse reasoning with the i as much awareness would be aknowledged. Had a few straighteners mainly a good while backand you have helped unlock alot for one, maybe some day.

Brother Sayf many thanks from London uk

Hello Sayf Carman, I hope you are doing well. I really like when you stated the single underhook is the jab of grappling. I have been practicing Chinese jacket wrestling (Beijing Shuai Jiao) for almost a year now (I'm 28 now). As my fundamentals are starting to form, I notice I really love positions where I can have an underhook, like the left vs right side-lock (Sorry I don't know what to call it). I also tend to favorite techniques using the underhook like Rù/Kuā Bèng (hip throw) and Wāi (Sumo calls it Shitatenage). I am not strong at all, but even I can begin to move my opponent and start my offense with an underhook. I love it. Thank you for sharing your insight!

Hello. I'm not sure if you've done a video on Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu. I'll like to know your thoughts on it as a martial art

I have a question, I am a new student of BJJ and I was wondering what makes the under hook more important than the over hook? Excellent video by the way.
