Can we just rake a moment to appreciate how Michael can talk without moving his mouth

“Sometimes it’s more important to live than to see reality as it is”
This goes so unfathomably hard.

We still can’t explain how Michael is able to stare for so long

That might be one of the greatest quotes of all time.

As Captain D said: We are more tuned to luminance (and contrast) over color. Being able to see a lion jumping at your face is more important than admiring its majestic mane

As a digital artist this is actually one of the tools I use the most to create more saturated colors, brighter colors, make it look more like a whole piece etc.

"Sometimes its more important to live than to see reality for what it is." I'm writing that one down.

Brought it into procreate and check the colors, the dot on the bottom is actually darker than the moving dot and the one on top is brighter than the moving dot. But as I used the same color as the moving dot and made some strokes, the illusion continues as the line looks like it’s getting darker and brighter even though it’s the same color. Neat

it took three circles and a gradient for Michael to give me an existential meltdown

This is also a really important part of color theory that artists can learn to make use of. I remember in my design class we had to take two different colored strips of paper and make them look identical just by placing them on top of other colors.

This is a defensive mechanism. Your brain is hardwired to detect contrast, so that the predator sneaking up on you is easier to spot. It's also why movement in the corners of your eyes freaks out your brain.
