Annabel sounds like she's at Parent's Evening asking young Roger what he drew in his art class

It would be good to hear more about the equipment side of tennis.

Thanks for this…it’s always fun trying to use the EXACT equipment setup of my favorite pros to approximate what they are feeling during play.

It makes perfect sense to string the longer mains at a slightly higher tension because the flex of a string corresponds to its length and thickness. The shorter cross strings should be at a lower tension to not prevent the mains to extend as the should on impact with the ball. I figured this out on my own but here's the confirmation. I go for a slightly lower tension for the crosses. Mathematically the proportion should be equal to the mains' and crosses' relative lengths.

I use a RF97, 57.5lbs of tension, Natural Gut x Multifilament in crosses and I love it. Have had it for 5 years.

The RF97 Autograph is a superb frame in every way. Its not a light frame by any means but the balance and mass is perfect for me anyway. It is a stiff frame though and thats why it needs gut or multi filament in the mains . The layter is a great option cost wise and also for power (2 lbs less than gut.

Federer so passionate about the game, very nice to hear him talking about the equipment.

Need more of these little detail interviews. Rather then asking about winning gran slams everytime.

Tennis not only mentally and physically exhausting but it really is mathematical at times too.

How the pros tailor their racquets can be such a precise science, which is why so many of them are so reluctant to change. Probably the most famous person involved in that level of customisation was Warren Bosworth, who advised a number of players in the 70s and 80s, and his son later taking over. There was a famous story of how Ivan Lendl (one of Bosworth's clients) wasn't playing well, so called up Bosworth, who asked him to hold a racquet to the phone and tap the strings. He could tell from the sound that it had not been strung to the precise tension needed.

19x16 so we know he using two pieces of string that his stringer pre stretches. 19’ mains are 27kg while the 16’ crosses are 25.5kg and of course the blended gut with the gut on the mains. Covered a lot of ground in 2:00 min. 😊

I miss him on the tour. I miss Nadal, Federer and Djokovic in the same tournament.

It's like the scene from "Spinal Tap" when they are discussing the different stains of the guitars 🎸
