Good point. However, let google know which is your preferred format. Go to your Google Search Console account and make the appropriate changes there. Experience will tell you that in fact, it doesn´t matter which format you use.

Of course WWW shouldn't matter. If the searching public doesn't care about WWW why should Google's search results? WWW was only used originally to designate a "world-wide web" server on that IP address. The same IP address could have an FTP server (ftp.example.com) or a gopher server, etc. Since each of these protocols use a different port address (e.g. 80/443 are most common for 'web' http/https traffic) they could have many servers on one IP address. Google crawls / indexes what it can see, if it follows a link and sees content on port 443 it indexes it. It also knows if it can open it, you can open it. The content is what's important and WWW doesn't help people understand / enjoy / experience the content any better.

I rarely type in the WWW when manually entering any web address. If they aren't smart enough to redirect me via their DNS record I probably don't want to go to that site anyway.

I do not agree with you! So why Google, Bing, Yandex, etc are using www ??
