I don't understand why the excerpt (when available) is not used by Yoast as "meta description". It seems very similar in many ways.

thank you for this video! and for all your videos and information! So we should be writing a whole new bit for the excerpt rather than just using the most appropriate excerpt from the article itself?? and if so, how many words ( approx ) should that new excerpt we write be?
