Facts! Intensity is key. Not just doing lots of sets and reps unnecessarily

People hear this from people and think that means do as much volume as possible, which is not at all what he's saying lmao

Growth occurs during rest and recovery. Exercise is just the stimulus..

Remember guys: Train till failure, not till injury.

He's 💯 right. When you start pushing to your absolute limit, the gains start rolling in.

The term "Failure" is meant as
"No longer being able to perform the reps properly due to muscle fatigue"
(Aswell as the actual muscles being fully fatigued at the end of the workout)

If you want to see what failure truly feels like;
Once per month, do all of the Isolation exercises FIRST to pre-fatigue the muscle group being worked out, then at the very end do your compound exercise (that you normally would do first) but with about 20% less weight....

You will feel TRUE failure (fatigue) and almost always see gains after this monthly switchup!

Just do not overuse this method or your body will think its the norm...
Use it as an ace up the sleeve, aswell as supersets to fatigue every 4-6 weeks...

These tactics causes "Muscle confusion" which is what makes the body grow.

Make sure to never do the same routine 2 weeks in a row....
Do Every workout differently week to week in some way as far as excercises, positioning, and the order performed in each monthly phase before repeating the EXACT same thing again...

Always Keep in mind:
Your muscles grow to accomplish tasks, so if you constantly confuse them into thinking they need to be grow for new tasks, they will keep growing.

Doing the same thing causes the body to think it has accomplished its goal, and growth will stop and it then becomes strength/conditioning...

The 6-12 months is always the easiest being you can gain muscle and lose weight at the same time (if overweight), but after about a year you have to choose between Bulking/cutting phases if working out for the sake of your physique,
OR Strength/conditioning...

Know your goals!

Last but not least;
Take a week off every few months... And ALWAYS make sure to consume your Protein/simple carbs in the first 30 (45) mins max after working out.... Do not miss your anabolic window!

But still be careful. Read the signs of your body because pain can show differently and warn you from injuries. As Arnold said in the documentary, one injury could cost your whole career

Don't forget the certain feeling he would get while working out. It reminded him of a certain exercise

Pumping Iron was one the best documentary films. I wish I still had my pop’s VHS 📼 copy. Arnold 🥇 Winning the Mr. Olympia & Then Wearing Numer uno smoking a J. Was Classic. 💪💯

I get pushing yourself for gains. Hearing it from those who juice takes the luster off the advice.

I failed a squat today at the gym, and it was really embarrassing lol. Gotta get those gains tho.😅

Idk why people are saying that oh you need to stop at an rpe of 7-8. Arnold isnt advocating (not in this video) to specifically go to failure. He is stating that many who work out stop too early, right when the soreness (not pain, they should be differentiated) kicks in. However thats really just a result of more blood flow and the accumulation of lactic acid, and not an indication of significant hypertrophy. Once you get beyond the adaptations that your muscles have built, you finally then give it a stimulus for hypertrophy (just as a quick note, hypertrophy is not new muscle fibers, it is the thickening of the muscle fibers already present; hyperplasia, which is the creation of new muscle fibers, has not been proven in humans except in special cases such as when you are born). Likewise microtears and soreness aren’t necessarily an indicator of hypertrophy, and in fact they are the reason ppl do not recommend to go to failure on every lift (except isos). The closer you get to failure, the more microtears you accumulate, which means the more time your body will need to recover, so going to failure on compound lifts can result in fatigue accumulation which could hinder LP. Ok that was a lot

This speech applies to me just getting out of bed.

Love how the guy collapses and Arnold pays him zero attention.

Many people think that Arnold and the other contemporaries of his, were just doing junk volume high volume with fluff weights.
4 sets that each set were going up in weight until the last set that they would go all in and hit failure around 8-12 or 10-15 rep range. Plus they didnt do many exercises like people seems to believe high volume is today.
Arnold always did 3 exercises for chest: flat bench press, incline dumbell press and chest flyes (Cable or dumbbell).
So pretty much what Dorian yates did as well, hitting the sets till you go to your actual working set.

But also listen to your body and don't lift heavy while injured
