My only issue is in them choosing to go to Miller’s planet at all. Once they realized what kind of time distortion the planet was under, they should have elected to save Miller’s planet for last. As Brand said after the first wave left then stranded, Miller relatively speaking, had only been there for a few hours. None of her observations were going to be backed by the kind of time intensive observations that would be necessary to determine if the planet would be viable for human colonization. That, coupled with her still theoretical abundance of supplies and the time it was going to cost the people back on Earth, just for them to touch down and speak with Miller, Miller’s should have definitely been their last stop.

His name was John Scott Russell, and he discovered this phenomenon (the wave of translation aka Russell’s solitary wave) on the union canal just outside of Edinburgh. There is a plaque on one of the bridges along the union canal near the spot where he discovered it (near because no one knows the exact spot) and an aqueduct named after him (Scott Russell aqueduct) a bit further up that also has a sign giving some information on the discovery. The canal has a public footpath along side it so if your in the area you can walk along it, it’s a fairly nice walk, although the Scott Russell aqueduct itself if unremarkable other than the sign.

Love that NGT just says what he feels doesn't seem accurate, but is very clear what he's basing that on, and that he's not, in this case, a wave expert. He loves to learn!

Potentially the most enjoyable IMAX ride Ive taken BUT… If the water planet has 1.25x Earth’s gravity, how are they able to achieve escape velocity without an additional solid booster rocket which was required when departing Earth?

My issue was the travel to and from Miller's. They need huge rocket to leave earth which has lower gravity, but just fly off Miller's like an aircraft.

There is a small correction I would make to his explanation: the reason for higher parts of the wave traveling faster than the lower part is due to the nonlinearity in the wave (as described by the KdV equation) and not dispersion. This is what causes the steeping as he correctly explained is due to the nonlinearity. As you can imagine, when the top part travels faster than the lower part, the wave steepens. This nonlinearity is balanced by the dispersion (which is just the standard type of dispersion in any wave system) which allows for the solitary wave (soliton) to propagate without distortion to its size, shape, and speed!
