Election Results | BJP's Loss In Faizabad: Local Issues Not Addressed, Allege People In Ayodhya

Ayodhya Election Result: In a major upset in the Faizabad parliamentary constituency, where the temple town of Ayodhya is situated, Samajwadi Party candidate Awadhesh Prasad defeated sitting BJP MP Lallu Singh by a margin of over 54,000 votes. The defeat assumes significance as the Ram temple of Ayodhya has been the fulcrum of BJP's politics since the 1990s, which catapulted it significantly at the national level.

According to some locals, the BJP lost because of anger and resentment among the rural populace in and around Ayodhya.
The development work done by the government around the newly built Ram Temple impacted many residents as their houses and shops were demolished to build corridors for devotees or for the city's beautification.

Several residents alleged that they did not receive adequate compensation for giving up their properties for these development projects. Some other locals believe that Lallu Singh did not run an effective campaign, which failed to enthuse citizens to cast their votes.
