Shows how to setup, aim, and align a DirecTV Slimline HD satellite dish using an HD Receiver and portable TV. No special signal meters required. Also demonstrates the "dithering" adjustments needed to peak the signal readings from the 99 & 103º HiDef satellites.

Wish I understood how to do this but I'm lost! Jim Litz, thank you for sharing and hopefully preventing others from having to deal with DTV "No Customer service hell" as we are dealing with. We've had 3 service calls in 9 days in which nothing was fixed, our service is getting worse every day.

We are in our 60's, there is no way we can get on the roof to the dish. I see the comment from Vigil774L, a DTV tech replied on here last year, and am hoping someone may have a kind suggestion as we are getting no help from DTV. They set up a 4th call yet I will bet anyone something I do not have they will not show. Many thanks for your time and/or suggestions.

Thanks so much! Huge help. Lots of garbage from people that don't know what they are doing or intentionally trying to scare people off showing the 500 dollar professional signal meter.

4:10 the option I like using work if you have two iOS devices on the same account. Simply take iPhone and put on tripod pointed at your TV in the house then call your iPad for example though FaceTime video call! When on the same AppleID account you can call your other devices! It works very well!

I had forgotten where some of the menu items were. They change slightly sometimes. My parent's area lost their only DTV service person (rural UT) and my senior citizen parents take care of my 100+ yr old grandma. They only care about CNN, MSNBC, ESPN and, all the local stations. Now I need to figure out which transponders their channels are on and go take a look to see which model dish they have

I'm a tech for Directv..101 a starting point but if you have HD you need to look for 103 ca and get that to high number..also make sure yur power inserter is plugged in to give power to the lnb..good luck

That's why you have two dials one for elevation and one for azimuth..check your area for tilt degrees and elevation mark and make sure your mast is plumbed level before anything..call a professional if u have major issues

I really need some help with my DiecTV Dish. I have the older SD Dish and not the HiDefinition. I want to install it on a taller pole, because for three years, I’ve been getting letters some DIRECTV claiming that the satellite dish I am using is going to be obsolete because they have a 17-year-old satellite that’s going out. They want to install it on my roof through my shingles and all and I don’t want to do that. One of the problems I’m having is with trees and possible location of where to install a pole. The only reason why I had DIRECTV primarily was for the NFL SundayTicket, however, as some may know if not all, DIRECTV has lost it contract with the NFL to sell the programming. Can anyone give me any advice on how they would install the newer wider style type of DIRECTV satellite dish, or would you just simply go with a company like spectrum or AT&T on a wired line? Thank you very much for any advice or input

Hello what bolts do you loosen to dither the right side, as we cant see that angle of the video?

set your scew and then just do the alignment with 99 location only. 99 is a spot beam and is the most sensitive signal to align. A reading of 86 will be more than enough. all the other satellites will fall into place. I did many installs with this method in half the dish alignment time. Had very little sig loss during rain storms...

Using the correct Dithering procedure was not done here. Had it been done, the signal strengths for 99ca 99cb 103ca 103cb would have been in the 90's

Will trees block out 100% of the signal? I'm attempting this process after roofers took my dish down. I'm setting it up about 5 feet off the ground opposed to on the roof, and I have some tree tops in line of sight, nothing super dense though. Reading all 0s on the receiver no matter what I do. Mast is perfectly level, elevation and tilt are unchanged from how it was working before. Tried slowly sweeping left to right to find my azimuth and can't find anything. I expected if trees were in the way I'd at least get a weak signal? Is there an easy way to check the lnb with a multimeter?

To make Dithering easier, do not use a socket wrench. Use a 1/2" Nut Driver.

will a Directv satellite dish get signal if there is a wall of some type on the left and/ or right of the dish with the dish still pointing south? or do I need no obstruction on either side of the dish?

Hi. I got low to mid 90's on my signal meters but nothing on my transponder page. So I had no channels. How is this possible and what am I missing. Thanks for video and time.

For a reverse bands multi LNB which satellite do you plug into dish pointer for the tilt. 99 or 103?

oh, one more question. would that LNB work with a standard def receiver just to see if it is working? The ad on ebay claimed is is backward compatable
