New England Chowder - At The Beach

Tender New England clams with potatoes and bacon in a creamy clam juice flavored broth. What's not to like about this soup. I am at the beach in new England and just had to prepare this delicious local dish. Sautéing the bacon, stirring in the clams and enjoying this gorgeous soup while listening to the waves crash in the background made this even more special.

Clam Chowder
Serves 4
6 slices bacon diced
1 small onion diced
3 stalks celery diced
1/2 cup flour
2 cups chopped clams
2 cup clam juice

4 medium Gold potatoes peeled and diced
salt and pepper to taste

oyster cookies

Sauté the bacon until crisp, remove and set aside. Add the onions and celery to the bacon grease and sauce until soft. Add and stir in the flour. I live on the West Coast and up until I turned 80 I dug my own clams...razor clams. The minute you disturb them they dig down and try to escape so it's quite the sport. I add diced celery and thyme to my chowder

This looks so good, my family from Maine adds some baby shrimps, corn, and old bay seasoning in addition to the same way you made it!

my childhood!! Ohhhh the memories of Cape Cod, MA!!!! I miss it soooo much. Thank you for bringing back my heritage for a few minutes. I remember my grandmothers and great grandmothers making this gorgeous clam chowder - fresh caught clams steamed!!! YUM New England is my heritage and my love. Yes, "wicked good". I miss the New England shores (beach in the south). The lovely sand fencing. Oh to be in New England. Blessings. I love how you made this right on the beach on a beautiful sunny day. I enjoyed this video so much.

Darren "Baby Bear" McGrady. I like the sound of it. I love making fish chowder. I haven't been to the Union Oyster House in years. Time to go back again. I am about 30 miles north of Boston. I hope you enjoyed your visit here.

My mother made it with a clear broth and salt pork, and plenty of onion. We used to go dig the quahogs at east beach, Rhode Island where we had our beach house. And if there was leftover clams she made clam cakes!, , enjoy your vacation!

Looks fantastic! I’ve been living in New England most of my life and pretty much always make it the same way you did. The only differences for me is adding a couple stalks of celery with the onions, and a couple cloves of garlic near the end of the sweating process. And we generally just use whatever milk we have on hand but I’ll definitely try heavy cream the next time I get around to making it. ❤
