Spotters are so important and amazing. If any of these people can prevent just one gymnast from suffering an injury that could lead to being paralyzed, ending their career, or even dying, then their job is well worth it. We salute you!

The thing about spotting is that sometimes it looks like the spotting was unnecessary but from the perspective of the spotter who has a better view of what's happening, it's more important to prevent a major injury than to let a sequence finish. Basically, if it's close enough to be hard to tell, it's better to catch the athlete just in case.

I coach and spot in my local gymnastic centre and I know it may seem that some of these actions were totally alright and spotter messed with them but believe me we know something is wrong even before a gymnast starts their rounds, from run to body positioning, body mass distribution, form, time taken to perfom it, we keep everything in mind so yeah you have to be preety alert, flexible and athletic else the gymnast may get severely injured.

As somebody who has absolutely zero background in gymnastics I really need someone to come in clutch for me here...

Why does it seem like in so many of these types of videos the spotters seem to be able to tell several seconds in advance that something's going to happen? I get that there's years of experience and surely there are some "signs", but in some of these it seems like a completely normal routine, but you can see the spotter prepare for a catastrophe and anticipate PERFECTLY where the fail point is going to be. Like wtF??? I'm amazed
