I am a nurse, and had a patient back in the day that was a tailgunner in Wellington ( I think, been a few years) that was strafed by a 109... And took 2 20mm hits, plus some mg rounds. The fact that he was alive was remarkable enough, but what high caliber do to your body is horrific. Whenever I see stuff like this, I remember that friendly old man, and his wise words " getting shot is quite unpleasant"

Just look at the appearance of Gundam EX in Requiem for Vengeance. A guy literally dies from the heat of a beam saber, despite being not being directly hit by it.

Remind me of the red tails scene where the pilot heads on a 262 with 4x30mm cannons and somehow survives being hit several times and it shows as tiny bullet holes in his chest

The answer is pretty simple guys. From the pilot's perspective the guns are far away and therefore look smaller, hence the smaller bullets. If he was much closer the bullets would be huge.

Makes you consider the main guns on a Gloriana class battle ship on Warhammer 40K, when they fire on the gun deck anything made of meat standing anywhere near the gun deck gets turned into a gooey paste because of how powerful they are.

In the movies defense, muzzle flash is a terrible indicator of round size. I have a snub nosed .357 revolver that makes huge fireballs when you shoot it, but the round is smaller than my pinky finger. That being said, those cannons look to be 25-30mm based on barrel diameter, and those rounds tend to turn people into puddles

Nick "The Reaper" Irving was a 50 Cal machinegunner before he was a sniper. His first kill ever was him dumping lead in a suicide car bomber. That turned the guy into jelly from the waist up. A gun that big turn him into an afterthought.

As fast as they are firing, we can talk about relatively "Small" tank shells or relatively large Anti-Air shells. 50mm to 105mm flack or something a kking to (you can correct this) grape shot, those gidgy rounds that turn a cannon into a massive shotgun.
