Cat jumps on imam leading Ramadan prayers in Algeria

A live broadcast of an imam in Algeria leading a nightly Ramadan prayer has gone viral because of an unexpected intrusion by a cat.

Imam Sheikh Walid Mehsas was performing the tarawih, a nightly prayer held during the holy month of Ramadan, at a mosque in Bordj Bou Arreridj province when the cat jumped on him and climbed up on his shoulders.

A video – with the caption “Even animals are humbled by the word of God” – was uploaded on Wednesday on the imam’s Facebook page, where it has been viewed close to 800,000 times.

What the imam says in English he started recitation form chapter I of the holy Qur'an and part from chapter 6.

Chapter I

In the name of Allah-the most compassionate most merciful.

All praise is for Allah-lord of all worlds, the most compassionate most merciful, master of the day of judgment.

You 'alone' we worship and you 'alone'we ask for help. Guide us along the straight path, the path of those you have blessed-not those you are displeased with or those who are astray.

From Chapter 6:147

But if they deny you 'O prophet Muhammad', say, "your lord is infinite in mercy, yet his punishment will not be averted from the wicked people."

148. The polytheists will argue, "had it been Allah's will, neither we nor our forefathers would have associated other with Him 'in worship' or made anything unlawful." Likewise, those before them rejected the truth until they tested Our punishment.

Ask 'them O prophet Muhammad' Do you have any knowledge that you can produce for us? Surly you follow nothing but 'false' assumption and you do nothing but lie."

149. Say, "Allah has the most conclusive argument. Had it been His Will, He would have easily imposed guidance upon all of you."
