Great video just one thing I would like to add. As a CDM you have to take runs like no other player on the pitch. When the team is going forward you also go forward to support the passing play. When the team lose the ball, you're probably the first player that needs to run back to protect the defence. A high level of stamina is required for the CDM position. If you get tired easily by making runs, this is not the position for you. It's probably one of the most important positions on the pitch linking both defence and attack together. Sort of like leading an orchestra without taking the headlines. We let the forwards get the fame and glory, we're just in it for the love of the game. Sincerely, a CDM.

Disagree: this is a “defensive midfielder” position you’re talking about. First passing priority should be to find your creative partners, not to find the goal scoring opportunities on a long pass which would most likely end in losing possession.

It’s more important to have the right people do the right things.

CDMs should focus on winning and keeping ball possession, and putting the more creative and attack-minded people in the position to do what they’re better at.

Also, you have to shift along with your team, and stay in the middle so you can intercept the ball. Also, CDMs also have many chances to score because they are always open, because while your team makes a counter attack, everybody is paying attention to the box and not what’s behind them. That way, you can ask for the ball, and they can play back so that you can have a one-touch finish in the back of the net.
I’m a CDM, so I know a lot about these kind of things.

Thanks, usually I get very nervous and I used to pass to the defenders as first option. Now I have realized that this option should be the last one. Today I will try to make the right order to pass:
1- Long pass
2-If not pass to the attackers
3- If not to defenders.

You forgot to tell us the most important part, where should a CDM position himself whilst defending?

I know this is an old video, and you said something similar to it, but it is very risky to pass through the middle. If the ball is lost it often results in a counter attack by the opponent. So passing more horizontally to the flanks is a more secure way to pass long balls.
