Why Stretching is Ruining your Spine

If you're stretching or doing mobility work like the gentleman at the end of this video, then your spine surgeon is about to stack that dough.

When your body can generate efficient motion, traditional stretching becomes unnecessary since moving correctly is what automatically creates all the stretching your body needs.

This is why we focus on teaching proper movement as a whole. It's what leads to the development of functional flexibility and strength both in and out of the gym, without the downside of flaccid, poorly integrated stretching.

Had lowerback pain throughout my 30's and 40's, started using stretching techniques around 47-48. Im 52 now and my lower back has NEVER felt so strong and supple.
I must say that my stretch routine DOES NOT look like im tweakin on meth tho.
Its a simple routine and only takes 5 mins but the important part is that I DO IT EVERY DAY

I think you just helped me realize why hypermobile me has more strength than most my shape and size, and also why I've been told my back is built better than some ppl going to the gym all the time (I don't). I've done many different sports since Kindergarten, swimming, gymnastics, downhill skiing, ice-skating, basketball, kayaking, weights, Kenpo Karate —many of these very dynamic whole body movements, stretches and contractions 🤔...

Stretching is good for the spine and back.

None of them are bad as long as your back is already adapted to it.

I don't stretch with weights. Feels dangerous.

There is really no bad movement as long as you do not experience pain. Please do not give shch bad information.

I use both ways. Its isolation vs integration 🤔

Or you could just activate your core by intentionally inhaling or exhaling through the movements while you stretch, idk 🤷

So, i have a bit of a problem with this because i have quite a bit of flexibility in my lower back and have been told that i am hypermobile, i got a stress injury in my back, from a very much unqualified pilates 'instructor' at my old ballet studio 3 years ago, that still occasionally flares up. It causes back pain in my mid-lower back on both sides of my spine and will shoot through the rest of my spine when aggravated, it is always worse on the left side, and the muscles there frequently feel like a solid brick and if I do any type of non-passive back stretches that involve muscle engagement anywhere in my back it causes me immense pain for a week, and i still dance ballet 6 days a week for at least 2 hours a day, and even that, and moving in general, doesn't fix the damage caused by non-passive streches

Everyone's body is different, what works best for some people is damaging to others

When my back was at it's worst i could not sit with my back in a particular position for more than 5 minutes without being in incredible pain. Something as simple as having a backpack that has some weight to it or a duffel bag causes the muscles to tighten again and bring pain. I have to be careful if i use trap bar at the gym because that can cause a flare up. The only way i have consistently found relief is through passive stretches, rolling out, and the occasional chiropractor visit

I read the comments and can already tell this chamnel is trash not cause it may spread misinformation but because its elitist and thinks their opinion is the only valid one. I can tell you their are lots of other ways to stretch that are not just good for you but help a lot too. Yoga being one which is why you should also be weary of the information here anyways cause he totally undersold it. Also, the dude replies to people so rudely, just for their opinions, and then acts like he is talking to keyboard warriors. So if i het some shit on here like that, idk square up, i guess. So def did not earn my sub or like. Actually disliked it but youtube dont show that no more so. Anyways im almost done with my shit so im gonna scroll from this shit.
