Being a child of the 80s I was so conditioned to do passive stretches before a workout but eventually I dropped them out of impatience, lol. I found I did have better energy and results just doing warm up versions of the upcoming exercises, and saved the long passive stretches for the post workout session. Interesting to see that my inherent impatience and laziness was onto something, lol.

Excellent video, your expertise in movement is the best on the internet, your affable personality with relaxing voice makes your videos so good. My wife and I love your yoga videos and just finished your 21 day challenge! Keep up the great work Liv!!

What a brilliant presentation. Truly, across all fitness channels, yours is in the top 3 for content, digestibility. Athlean-X is popular with men; you deserve at least as many subscribers, Liv!

Great video, thanks. I actually learned that before a workout you do a warming up in which you jump, rotate and be active and you stretch after the workout to give back the length to the muscles...

This was so incredibly helpful! I was just jumping right into strength training and doing my yoga afterwards because I tend to do just passive and restorative yoga most days because of my job. So it is helpful to know there are moves I can do before the strength training! Thank you so much!! 🙏🏼💜💪🏼

Good to see this information getting around more now!
I found this general info years ago, after having some sudden failures in squat and deadlift workouts, and correlating it to stretching after a few workouts.

you explained this much better and in much simpler terms. thank you also for recommending dynamic stretches.

Passive stretches never felt right prior to workouts for me to begin with, so usually I just ended up going straight into the routine. Glad to know just how good of an idea it was to start using yoga as my warmup!

I was doing the passive to just see how the body is feeling before the workout. Thanks for the info I can easily switch to theses and get the same thing.

Great advice. We do use it in Japanese and Chinese martial arts and in ski comps (free style and moguls). By the way, that comfy spaniel cocker doggy is so cute and quite... just watching stretch happening! 😊

Oh... I did strength training some ten years ago, but hadn't much gains and eventually stopped due to lack of motivation. Because there were those rests between sets and physical therapist had recommended stretching in general, I used those between sets rests for stretching.

I always passive stretch after a workout when the muscles are full of blood. Recovery is shortened by a day or two when I do. Feels great too.
