How to Install CUSTOM Polymer-Modified Mortars

As part of our popular video guide on How To Install Tile, this video shows you how to install Custom Building Products polymer-modified mortars. It covers how to mix your mortar, apply it to your surface and properly set the tiles on top of it. You’ll also learn time-saving tips and tricks.

Before you apply mortar, you need to properly prepare your surface for the tile. Prepping your surface may include leveling or applying a waterproof membrane or crack isolation treatments.

The specific materials you need vary depending on your particular tile installation. For example, are you installing a glass backsplash or are you putting in a natural floor tile in your hallway?

Materials you will likely need for your tile installation include:

• A five gallon bucket
• An electric drill with a box-beater mixing paddle
• Clean water
• A large measuring cup
• Trowel
• Grout spacers
• Measuring tapes
• A straight edge or level
• A tile cutter
