DDJ 400 is the best recommendation out of 3 since layout is near club standard setup.
Rev1 has a good effects trigger but cue button and tempo fader is out of place, unless you're already familiar with turntable on battle style then its a go to, but not for beginners.
DDJ 200 is cheaper but you'll be missing important stuff like dedicated effects section, loop button and most importantly the trim knob.

It depends on the genre. Hip hop, R&B, Disco etc the REV 1. Any electronic genre House, EDM etc. the 400

Get ‘‘em a ddj 200, it’s great for beginners and you don’t even need a laptop. (Laptop is recommended tho)

I went thru this comparison for my 1st controller. As a battle style vinyl DJ of over 30yrs I chose the Rev1 as it gave the most bang for the buck and its battle style layout. I love it for mixing, but for scratching I'm so used to technic1200s or CDJs that I found the non adjustable tension of the jog wheels and their kinda small size it took a lot of adjustment for me to scratch and backspin with... they do work and I also have 30yrs of being used to a particular setup... so that being said, I highly recommend the Rev1 for beginner or advanced skilled DJ who wants a simple yet powerful value priced controller. I use it for a backup or just for playing around with and really enjoy it, by no means do I regret my purchase or plan on getting rid of it!

DDJ-200 or REV-1 in my opinion. One for budget reasons and the other for control reasons.

DDJ-400 everything is setup as close to a club standard layout as possible. Easy to transition from.

DDJ-Rev1, it’s for beginners- intermediate. It’s layout is like a professional controller and other systems and would make a easier and smoother transition from a beginner controller to a professional when time has passed by.

Because on the rev one the turntables are bigger for scratch DJs and the 400 and 200 performance pads are meant for DJs who like the normal mixes

The DDJ-400 would be what I would recommend. Even though it costs more than the DDJ-200, it has significantly more flexibility with respect to the software it can be used with as well as features to help them want to learn more about the art of DJ performance.
