How to undervolt Intel Core i9 for lower temps without less performance

Показать описание

In this video I show you how to undervolt the Intel Core i9 in order to reduce the max temp and stop it from throttling without negatively impacting the performance of the CPU.

This is with the Asus Strix Z690-E Gaming Wi-Fi motherboard installed in Lian Li Dynamic Mini Snow Edition.

In the BIOS settings (press and hold del when the machine starts) you'll find the AI Tweaker settings. In there look for CPU Core/Cache voltage settings. Change it from auto to adaptive mode and offset minus then set the offset voltage to 0.05000. Exit and save changes, then go into Windows and run Cinebench.

Thanks so much, this is exactly what I was looking for! I did this to my 12900k and it went from 99-100c on core 7 and 5 to 79-82 on full load. Clocking at 4.47 GHZ.

Started off heating up a new 12900K build to 100 degrees C CPU temps during Cinebench R23. I was a little worried before adjusting that setting in the bios. Ended up setting undervolt to -.07 and dropped max temps to 82 degrees C during same R23 test! The scores on R23 were within a couple points of each other! CPU Multi core scored 27333 pts and CPU Single core dropped only 7 points to 2000. Running the same CPU fan in the video. Thanks for dropping the knowledge on the internet!!...After 2 months of high temps I went with an AIO cooler...

thank you so much, currently running an i9 10850k on a z590 aorus elite motherboard, the motherboard was running the vcore at 1.341v, I went with your settings and I set the vcore down to 1.3v while setting the offset to 0.050v and now my temps don't go beyond 75c whereas before it would hover between 85-90c...and best of all NO STABILITY OR PERFORMANCE LOST!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I don't know who you are, but this is the most simple and the most useful video on a subject. You've got a new subscriber, thanks.

Well first of all thank you very much for this video. Mine was running at 85°C for CPU & touching 96° for the CPU package in CB with score 26700 with a 360 rad. This one change (-0.05000) adaptive offset has brought down almost 10° and now CPU stable at 76° and package maxing at 88° with a score of 26900. Having 6 intakes and the 360 aio as exhaust on top all housed in a Lian Li O11 Dynamic.

Will try with another -0.02 offset making it -0.07 and see where it takes with stability. No doubt the 12900k runs pretty hot.

Absolute wonderful series of videos on the 690 MOBO answered and explained most all my question for my first build.

What I noticed when undervolting (i9 12900K on ASUS Z690-I) whas that Cinebench and Intel XTU ran just fine with no crashes. I thought everything was fine, until I ran Cyberpunk 2077 and it would'nt even start. Raised the undervolting by 5 mV and everything was fine. Moral of the story: check all applications you normally use too, before going any further with the undervolting.

yeah a slight 0.050 to 0.100 voltage offset can really do wonder for 12th and 13th editions Intel CPUs! you can reign in temps further by capping PL2 (short duration) and PL1 (long duration) at the official 253W TDP for these CPUs. If your CPU start downclocking P and E cores, you've gone to hard with the voltage reducation and give it a bit back.

Thanks, it's work perfect for 13900ks

what if i don't have CPU core/cache voltage
Instead I have things like "Acutal VRM Core Voltage" Global Core SVID Voltage" and "Cache SVID Voltage"

This boosted my performance. I'd tried everything else, but this did the trick.

Thanks for sharing! I have one question, I have the Rog Strix z690 and the BIOS is slightly different, after the"BCLK Aware..." option mine has 2 dropdowns:
- Global Core SVID Voltage
- Cache SVID Voltage
and they both have the Auto mode, Offset Mode and Adaptive mode, how can I tell which should poke around to undervolt?
Thanks again!

Thanks I just searched for this had no idea you made a video on it! I'm trying to save as much energy as possible since everything's going up here in the UK and also my game room gets too warm as well which I hate lol

Currently running my i9-1200k with a serious 0.085 undervolt. Cinebench score of 27066. Stable in all stress tests and gaming workloads. Temps are maxing 76° C with an average of 74° C.

I just undervolted my 13900KF last night by 0.075 and getting almost 10c less (tested in cyberpunk at 4k everything maxed, all RT on ultra on a 4080). Def wanna try atleast 0.100. Such a simple thing to do to give your pc some extra life

Something very Monty Python about this channel owner. Can't put my finger on it yet. 🤔 Regardless, great tip on under-volt purpose and results on the asus board. Best explanation I've found so far. Thanks you very much, cheers! 🍺

1:59 Hi I have the Mobo > ASUS TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI and 13900K so my BIOS looks similar but I don't see CPU Core/Cache Voltage is this the same as Actual VRM core voltage setting?

Thank you ! Much better temperature now ! ;)

Love the videos man, bios has been updated since this one was posted. Would you happen to know what the new drop-down would be to do this undervolting? Any guidance would help appreciate it!

I have an msi board and can't find any settings that matches yours so worried about setting anything as it breaks the cpu core voltage down in a much more granular level 😢
