It can only cancel recoil if it violates the laws of physics. The buffer has to accelerate the counterweight forward, which pushes the buffer and firearm backwards.
By the same logic as this design, all firearms are zero recoil, since the firearm pushing the bullet forward cancels out the firearm's recoil.

The conservation of energy, and Newton's Third Law of Motion apply to buffer springs.

The DPM recoil system worked pretty well in the Rex so this could be pretty good (different company I know)
