DELOAD or NOT?

The deload is critical for long term success when training with weights. You should probably deload every four to eight weeks, but the details can be a little complicated. It's quite individual, and you'll need to experiment with different styles of deloading. One thing is certain; if you aren't deloading, you are probably not training as hard as you could or should! Deloading is essential. You can deload in the following ways:Volume (sets)Volume (reps)Intensity (loading)Frequency (workouts/week)Accessory work (dropped or reduced)Higher RIR/Lower RPE (further away from failure)Time in the GymYou can deload either on a fixed schedule, or with a more intuitive approach.

I never needed a deload week or rest day because life's random interruptions would always handle that. Now that I am being super consistent I find I can actually feel the local and systemic fatigue and the need to periodically deload.

Never believed in deloading until my shoulders felt like hell. Good video!

Re: graphics/edits, frankly, I'd watch your videos over some well-produced, instagrammy video any day of the week. The no frills, no clickbait approach is so refreshing.

I’ve been training with weights for 46 years. No one who has been training hard naturally for 2-3 years is making rapid gains unless their adding a lot of body fat. I made the same mistake of thinking the next hard workout balls to the wall was going to push me over the top to my next PR and if I backed off I’d be blowing all my hard work, it’s BS. It is the culmination of all your hard work throughout the year that gets you the long term intermediary and advanced gains, not any one workout or a weeks or two of workouts. Deloads are essential to prevent injuries, prevent overuse injuries, maintain motivation and make training hard sustainable over decades of training into your sixties and beyond. Anyone that hasnt recognized that yet hasn’t been training for multiple decades yet. If your an intermediate or advanced trainee, train hard, recover and take a deload ever 4-8 weeks, so you can still be jacked and strong at 60.
Sincerely

I usually take 4-5 days completely off always seems to work for me, usually my motivation dips, sleep poor, digestion some times takes a hit, I think them 5 days gives me a huge mental break

I find very useful to have asynchronic deloads, depending on the body part where I feel fatigue. This is very helpful in my case, because I have an injured leg from a car accident, so I know I have to deload my legs more frequently.

I find a good time to deload is when you change your routine. Like deciding to replace hack squat with bb squat. Good opportunity to deload and work on getting your form down for the next phase of training.

I just recently found your channel and I love your videos. Flashy editing and shit has nothing to do with real 1st hand information. Cheers Geoffrey

Deloading is easy for me, I usually lift at 85 percent of my known max untill the day warmups feel heavy, at that point I'll lift at 45 - 50 percent of my known max at higher volume for a week made some sick gains in the big three like that

I’ve been consistently doing full deload weeks just about every 8 weeks for a couple years now. I’ve been curious if there would be a benefit to doing 2 full weeks at some point, with maybe a much more drastic cut in workload. I know you mentioned in a different video you like to take 2 full weeks off the gym every now and then. WhAt do you think? Jeff Nippard also reviewed some research proposing that during the deload is when a lot of your gains come in. Haven’t heard much on that topic in the community.

“It’s just me doing this, and I’m working very hard.”

Lifting philosophy in a nutshell.

I did an intense 8 week prep for a power lifting meet. Afterwards I felt so beat up, I ended up taking almost 2 weeks off of training. My body really needed that time for some healing of joints and ligaments. I don't think it is smart to hammer your body without rest. At least not for me.

That greg doucett shot with training harder was epic.. Lol! You may not have the best production value or the graphics, but you got content which is second to none and I hope you will have the graphics too in very near future.

I definitely want to manipulate time. If I improve this skill, can I travel back in time?
Great explanation, again…
