I think it mostly depends on your usage, , like for students the 10th generation might actually be better due to lower price, better battery life, as well as a nice front camera for meetings. Can't deny the great features of air 4 but basically as a student i don't think I'm actually going to need that as if i'm not gaming or editing or any of these heavy tasks ...so if you're looking for a device mainly for studying purposes like writing down notes, or watching videos, reading books, etc...the 10th generation ipad is definitely a great option to recommend.

Just to know the display is not laminated, it does not support apple pencil 2. The only advantage it has over the air 4 is the front camera.

The air 4 is actually better than the 10. It has a faster chip. Apple purposely slowed down the chip on the iPad 10. Also, the screen isn’t laminated on the 10. Plus the whole apple pen situation is just horrible imo. If you get an air 4 refurbished for like 460$, it would actually be a way better deal than the 10.
Edit: 10 months later I was wrong. I love my iPad 10 way more than my old iPad Air 4. I got the 10 for 260$ in blue and it’s amazing.

iPad Air 4 > iPad 10
- the display on the 10 is not laminated
- the display on the 10 is not as color accurate
- the bezels on the 10 are slightly thicker than on the Air 4
- the A14 in the 10 is significantly slower than in the Air 4
- the 10 has no Apple Pencil 2 support
- the Air 4 can be purchased for about $20-40 less than the iPad 10 on Amazon

there's just no reason to buy the 10 when the air 4 exists lol
