Time is running out to reach a deal with a Hollywood writers who prepare to strike. A walkout could have a big impact on popular TV shows and movies. NBC’s Marissa Parra reports for Sunday TODAY.

You cannot stop AI from advancing and gaining these abilities. A pause would be pointless, and the kinds of regulations they're calling for would ONLY be a temporary option.
You cannot merely compensate writers, or merely compensate artists.. Compensation for AI cannot be so targeted or direct. There is no way to determine what source materials from the training, where used to create some piece of AI-generated content. The ONLY option we have, and the only thing we should be striking for now, is an Unconditional Basic Income for all! Everyone's data, that these corporations have been collecting from us for decades, goes into training these things. Everyone should get an AI Dividend!

As a consumer, I despise current hollywood writers a 100%. The got rid of all the quality writers, because they didn't want to pay them and replaced them young, cheap activists, that ruined movies and now have to face the consequences of their incompetence.
Yes, these young people have been used as a tool by the industry, but their lack of education and bone-headed idiology is what got them.
As I think about it, these young people have always been tools for powerful people.
Maybe something is rotten in Hollywood.

Ppl think film workers are overpaid because the ones you hear about definitely are. There are electricians, grips, set builders, painters, medics, accountants, office personal, caterers, etc that would all he out of work without the writers. Do you really want to watch game shows and reality TV made with cheap labor? Or scripts written by robots?

As a consumer, I support the writers 100%. As a society, we need to work toward decent compensation and a reasonable work life in all industries. I also support limiting AI in other regards, because *we are playing with fire.*

Writers want an AI block to save their jobs? Should we also block autonomous trucks and vehicles to save drivers' jobs? Should we still be riding in human-operated elevators? Society should forego automation in factories and warehouse storage/shipping too? If writers would have been writing anything worthwhile over the last decade they would have been earning an actual living. Perhaps people are tired of remake after remake and cheesy alternate-universe plotlines. Relying on AI to write scripts and plots may just give movie and television viewers some new and _interesting_ to watch... for a change. Technology marches on and it will continue to march over the top of the most easily replaced human activities regardless of how much they whine while it happens.
