I got the cheapest, no-name Chinese canister filter I could find for my 40 gallon tank and it has kept trucking for three years. As long as you understand the stages of filtration (mechanical then biological then optional chemical, then back to the tank) any canister filter will work, you don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars.
I just use filter floss then Seachem Matrix in my canister. Simple, cheap, and it works.

Thanks for another great, informative video. Also, if I can chime in on the disagreement with regards to filter media placement within the canister I say this. You guys at Green Aqua do a spectacular job and are clearly very successful with all of your display tanks as  is evident to all of us. Beyond that you share with us how it is done. With my first planted aquarium, these are my observations.
In the past, the filter was the most important part of the setup. In this aquarium, the plants are the most important part of filtration. I added plants and let them acclimate to the water they found themselves in for a week. Then I added life, snails first....On the first day of the 3rd week, I added fish. What resulted was 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and the plants grew like they were infused with Co2. They filtered out anything that can harm life quicker than it could accumulate.
I also modified the filter so that it would be lower flow. That plug in filter is nothing more than something to help move the water around. The plants themselves are doing it all and more than any filter a human can create.
