Used plex for past 5-7 years, now I use emby and can't go back to plex bugginess and also it's becoming less and less a personal selfhosted server. I would use Jellyfin but waiting on better client apps.

Emby was definitely at a disadvantage, for every movie and episode Emby has to Scan and analyze what's in the folder then create a .bif file which stores metadata And that makes a huge difference considering it's thousands upon thousands of files. That Plex paycheck is making you real forgetful.

Yeah I've used Plex, then I tried Jellyfin for a few days, then moved to Emby. Night and day difference, even with having to pay for Emby. It's worth it.

9000 movies and only taking 9tb? Must be in crappy quality

Emby will drop nfo files with the metadsta You can use this to rebuild later without no scanning the internet. You can also then use 3rd party tools to fix metadata for good. In plex, you fix a movie name that mismatches, the next full rebuild it will still be mismatched. I will never go back to Plex

Love the Blue Healer at the beginning of the video. Healers (Blue or Red) are the best dogs ever!

Question for you, has the Simply Nuuk come down in price yet. Intstead of that I bought a WD MyCloud 4100 NAS.

I cannot load my music library using emby, it slows everything to a crawl... so I don't.

Interesting stuff. I guess though that most may not be fussed with the initial load time, as after that they'll just be adding one at a time. I'm on emby these days, only because you correctly mentioned the off line lack of availability of Plex.

I actually have a dedicated plex windows machine w/ 10850k and z590 auors master that has built in 10g networking. I find it easier this way, and have a unraid server as a backup for plex and backup all my files.

Having a Plex server running at 15W is pretty awesome! The LED lights in my garage use more power and they're on 24/7. Of course, you also have to factor in the cost of the NAS hosting the data which will probably be 50W or more.

Kinda off topic, bit interested in a video on that remote desktop (both setting up the sources and accessing from remotes), however, I'm running a win 7 (ultimate) machine and parents have a 10home machine (and all mobiles are android based); not sure how well that'll play into the equation.

Does the plex CPU monitoring just monitor certain services such as transcoding, so other server functions aren’t being included in the monitoring?

Ive been testing 3 media servers and i found emby to be the worst. Pls don't kill me i have my reasons.

1. Emby doesn't recognise subtitles on many files but plex and jellyfin does easily. Being a non native english speaker i need subtitles on most files.

2. Emby UI is outdated, like both emby and jellyfin has similar UI so why would i pay for an outdated UI i can just use jellyfin.

3. Emby has lowest accuracy when it comes to media metadata. Like it makes more mistakes while recognising titles. Plex and JF has that issue too but they're relatively less wrong.

My personal ranking: Plex>JF>>Emby.

Why Plex when JF is free? - Plex UI is too clean and smooth. I use my firestick for main media consumption and JF is extremely slow on it. I probably need to upgrade my device but plex runs fast on it. Well emby is also faster than JF but it has those other issues i care about.

I been complaining with Emby about this for a couple of years and they swear up and down there data load fast. But it doesn’t

I've had recent weird problems with Emby not identifying all of the TV episodes I have it pointed to and sometimes not recognizing entire movie folders at all. There is some weirdness with how Emby identifies or doesn't identify your files. The same setup with the same folder path works perfectly fine with plex, however Emby has been tripped up by weird insignificant issues lately. I've seen people on The forum suggest making a new folder and moving the same files into a new folder will make it suddenly work again but this is a very weird issue the app should not have in the first place.
