Thanks, nice easy pattern. I didn't switch to a thinner yarn when I gathered the top. I threaded the tapestry needle with the working yarn first then placed the stitches on the tapestry needle purl wise. The stitches go directly onto the yarn that way, and the needles have the stitches removed off of them as you go, no need to thread a thinner yarn on with the needles in place then take the needles out.

I just made my second beanie. It turned out really cute. Iove this pattern. Med to LG hat, 52 stitches is 26" in diameter on the rim. I knitted 7" on the stockinette stitch since the first one I did was way too small. I took your advice on the second one and knitted it loosely and it turned out much better.
