Finger Knitting FAQ

In this video, I share how to finger knit a chenille chunky blanket. No experience with crochet/knitting necessary!
The throw featured in this video is 3 ft x 4 ft
5 skeins Bernat Blanket Yarn (32 yards in each skein)
Starting chain approx. 20-25 chains depending on tension

For a 4 ft x 5 ft , I'd recommend 6 skeins.
Starting chain approx. 30 -35 chains depending on tension

I would highly recommend that you use a tape measure and chain to desired measurement.

Supplies:
Bernat Blanket Yarn - Chalk Pink

If you want to make with traditional knitting
25 mm needles are recommended for this yarn weight.
I like these:
Knitter's Pride 25mm

In a mad moment, I decided to order the wool for this to make it for my friend's birthday... The wool arrived two days before the birthday, and I was working both days (I have no prior knitting experience!)... The race was on!
Two 2 1/2 hour sessions later, following your video with care, and it was finished in time!
This is the best guide to non-needle knitting I've found - I'm now going to try scarves... 😎
Thanks Roz! X

Ok for all the dudes out there who are trifling over another dude knitting and crocheting blankets, here's a little history for you. Knitting and crocheting were actually started by men who were fisherman. They had to repair their nets. This continued through the generation and women picked up on it to make clothing and blankets for their families. The fisherman worked also in the winter months. So they had to have warm things. Some didn't have wives and women to do these things for. So they branched out their skills to provide for themselves. Knitting and crocheting are being taught to soldiers suffering from PTSD, male and female alike. It calms the thoughts, focuses the attention on something real and tangible instead of memories and flashbacks. Its taught to prisoners (men and women) to help give them some creative outlet. It works. There is a combat veteran who has his own YouTube channel for crocheting. He suffers from PTSD and he wanted to share his skill with other veterans to help them. Until you suffer from this stuff, you don't know what its like. Its agony. I suffer from it, too. And about the young man who said we need to try it, he's showing passion for something he learned. He wants to share his passion for it. Thats a good thing! You need to do this.😉😁

I am 74 years old and we learned how to crochet, knit, sew and embroider in elementary school in Germany, something that was mandatory and not elective back in those days. Don’t know if they still require that, I doubt it, but it has served me well over the years. I am for sure going to make this blanket, it is so easy! Thanks for sharing! 😊👍❤️

Literally made my first blanket it took around 3 hours to make cause I kept making mistakes but literally worth it, this is the most warmest blanket I've ever had. I added a button to it so that it could wrap around me and I won't need to hold it. Thank you for teaching me this. 🙌❤

Had watched this several times and had taken a break from making blankets. Since Christmas is really soon, I decided to make my younger cousins small blankets. I’m 13 and turn 14 on Christmas Eve. Thank you so much for the video!!

I went to my aunts house for the weekend and someone had made a hand-knitted blanket for my little cousin. The woman who made it had dementia and was battling cancer, but the thing that she liked to do to keep her mind going, was to crochet and knit. Her story inspired me to make a blanket, and that led me here to this amazing video. Now I’m half-way through making my blanket and it is lovely thanks to you! ☺️ 🙏

Being a guy I find this method super easy. Just started one today and it is my first time EVER doing anything with yarn and I am really enjoying this method. Making a blanket for my Mom for Christmas. Thinking now I may need to make more for friends and family. TY so much for this amazing video.

I like how this blanket looks like it's neater and tighter stitches than other chunky blankets I have seen.

Out of all of the chunky blanket videos yours is the one I used the most and it helped me complete my very 1st blanket project! I was stumped about how to complete the final row and thankfully you explain it better than any other video I found. Thank you!

I’ve skimmed through probably 2 dozen videos, because my brain just did NOT understand what they were doing, even though they were all for “beginners.” I don’t understand the terminology, why they’re using certain tools, etc. Thankfully, I actually understand this one! 🙌🏼 I’ve never crocheted before, so for doing multiple colors, is it basically the same concept for adding another skein? Just tie on, trim & go? Thanks! This video is super helpful. 💜

I no longer have a lot of dexterity or sensation in my fingers. There is no way I could hold knitting or crochet needles correctly but this finger method is something I might master. Thank you for a great tutorial!
