Fine Molds X Wing 1:72 and 1:48 model kit unboxings, plus Y-Wing 1:72

The big news this month is that the licensing to Star Wars plastic models has shifted from Fine Molds to Bandai. Many of us have mixed feelings about this, since while Bandai has the capability to produce terrific model kits at a faster rate, they also have the tendency to overengineer their kits and have them appeal to novice modelers.

So, here I have made an unboxing video for both the 1:48 and 1:72 scale X-Wings by Fine Molds, as well as the 1:72 Y-Wing. Fine Molds may not have been the most prolific company for Star Wars kits, but each of their products was a labor of love, for sure.

Thanks for the unboxings mate. I am trying to be optimistic in the news of the bandai taking the star wars license. Until very recently I had never even looked at any bandai kits. I simply wrote them off as gimmicky kids stuff. I was wrong. I got one of their star blazers 2199 kits and was really surprised with the kit. It was a really really great fitting kit, even though it was a snap fit kit. I glued the parts of course but really didn't need to. The model is really well engineered and the parts layout was outstanding.
I really hope they do the star wars kits justice.

Wow, that's kinda surprising that they lost the license. I'm also nervous that Bandai got the license, not only for the remarks you already mentioned, but that they might turn out like the newer Revell Star wars kits. Which aren't all bad but they don't really have a standard scale like FM. And they don't have the same dedication to detail that made FM kits famous. Which is odd since Revell can produce excellent kits. I knew the kits were nice but I had no idea they were this nice, especially the decals. Love the multi choice R2 units. :)

Damn, damn, damn. . .I should of bought some of those Fine Molds kits when I had the chance. I built the FM TIE Interceptor and that was one of the best, most well engineered kits in 1/72 I ever built. My local shop had them but wanted too much for the 1/48 X Wing and I passed on the 1/72 Y Wing 'cause the box was opened and looked like it suffered severe water damage . . .I've seen the parts to the Bandai X Wing and I'm not that thrilled. . .Looks more like a toy. :-/

Sorry for 2nd posting here mate, but I just got the news. Bandai IS in fact using their multi colored sprues for their kits. Confirmed is a 1/48 x-wing, tie fighter, and vaders tie. If there are anymore kits I don't know right now. Also they are doing 1/12 scale figure kits, C3PO, R2D2, stormtroopers, and vader, more probably in the works. From the brief pics I saw they do look nice, If they are up tp par with finemolds' kits will have to be seen. Thankfully I didn't hear anything about them doing any clone wars stuff.

I just assume Bandai will include duff stickers with their kits. Which will be a nightmare for the smaller x-wings. You either hope for after market water slides or take the jump into doing the markings yourself. Which will be glorified pinstriping.

that sucks!  By losing the license they can no longer sell the kits they made molds of, eh?  If that's correct, those kits are definitely going to sky rocket in price.

Really worried they'd be downgraded to simple snap fit & gimmicks with peel off stickers which, though the norm for modern Gunpla, would be a bit of a let down following the Fine Molds high brow take on Star Wars model kits...
