I'm sure the Bandai kit is amazing, but I'm perfectly happy with my FM version. Mainly because I still get cold sweats just thinking about assembling all those pipes.

I have two of these kits on the way to my house and I can't wait to tear into them. The only problem is that I have a ton of stuff on my bench right now that I have to get through before I can start on them. Y-wings are my favorite Star Wars ship so I can't wait to build them.

I do remember the pain of gluing all of the pipes on the Fine Molds version so hopefully these will go on a little bit easier.

An interesting thing to me, is that all of these Bandai and Fine Molds kits are marketed as 1/72. Yet they are of different sizes. And in some cases, like the TIE fighters, quite a big difference between the two manufacturers.
One issue I have with the Fine Molds kits, is that the R2 units are not the same size.
Since that is the one constant, shouldn't the kits be scaled to the R2 units?

So now my question -
Are the R2 units the same size between the Bandai X and Y-wings?
And then, are they truly 1/72 scale of the real R2 props.

What kits are more 'true' 1/72?

I think I'm going to replace the thin pipes with lead wire they sell in the model shops over here, especially after recent experiences with the pipes on the AT-ST that go ping! And migrate underneath hard-to-move furniture...

I have the Fine Molds Y-Wing and the Argonauts Y-Wing kits. Still waiting on the Bandai Y-Wing kit to be delivered. All three in 1/72 It'll be interesting to see all three side by side when done. I also have Fine Molds, Argonauts & Bandai X-Wing kits in 1/72.

Nice one John !   I would still like you to build the FM Y wing and then compare....
as lots of fine parts gets added to the overall model...

But I agree the Bandai does look Awesome... straight up !

Keep up the good work !

Another great video my friend. Can you tell me what tool you used to cut the very small and delicate parts? I already broke four before I stopped for help.
Cheers

I just viewed your video Bandai v Fine Molds I've tried to go to the website you show at minute 0:25 on the box as wanted to order a couple of Y-Wing.  Could inform me if this web site on the box is still valid.  Thank you for the great videos you have posted as they have helped in my return to scale modeling after a very long Hyades

Although now that I've built two Bandai's and having spent all last night doing a repaint on my Finemolds Y, I'm starting to feel the urge...
