It's name is LHS 475b and in next week's longform video we'll chat about how JWST found the planet and how researchers work out what's in the planet's atmosphere.

👩🏽‍💻 I'm Dr. Becky Smethurst, an astrophysicist at the University of Oxford (Christ Church). I love making videos about science with an unnatural level of enthusiasm. I like to focus on how we know things, not just what we know. And especially, the things we still don't know. If you've ever wondered about something in space and couldn't find an answer online - you can ask me! My day job is to do research into how supermassive black holes can affect the galaxies that they live in. In particular, I look at whether the energy output from the disk of material orbiting around a growing supermassive black hole can stop a galaxy from forming stars.

You can make as many JWST vids as you like as far as I'm concerned

JWST has only begun to scratch the surface!
Can't wait for the followup!

What I love about planets around small stars, it gives them much much longer for life to evolve.

Excellent short video "announcement" of this discovery.
Looking forward to longer detailed video about this next week!
Thanks for this Dr. Becky!

WOOO. I’m a machinist that made a couple of fixtures for my engineer brother. They were for mounting accelerometers for his testing of the vibration dampening system during its launch.

awesome. thankyou Dr. Becky for keeping us so close to the forefront of astronomy discoveries! I'd love to see what it looked like to be on such a planet and look up at the night sky! Imagine how fast the constellations would move across the sky!

Red Dwarf stars are stable for so much longer than regular stars. Wow!

Exciting! Might JWST be able to spot rocky worlds around G and K type stars?

That is epic! I got your book in and plan to start reading it first chance i get

Really hope JWST will find earth-likes around non-dwarf stars. But looking forward to all the details on this one, a great landmark!

You so excited and enthusiastic about it is exciting in itself

This is literally the science I've been drooling to get from this marvelous instrument. The images of nebulae and distant objects are wonderful. However, it's the rocky bodies that orbit in habitable zones around their parent stars that I am most excited for spectral analyses of any atmospheric composition to have data collected on.
