**Update**
**

The no filter shrimp vase is now over 4 years old!

After almost meeting it's demise after 3 years and 11 months old, I had to almost completely tear the vase apart and rebuild it. I hope you enjoy watching this update of the last 2 years of the vase's existence.

I appreciate you sharing this, its easy to forget when looking at videos online that even people who know what they are doing are still human. As someone who struggles with my mental health, I get it.

Looking great! I'm glad you are feeling better and that you were able to bring it back. This just goes to show that you have the strength and motivation to never give up on anything.

The leading consensus is that a shrimp jar is fine but a fish jar is not sustainable.

That was great to watch. I get confused because I have a container aquarium similar to this and when I post things online about it, people tell me it is abusive to my animals to not have an air stone in the tank and a filter etc even though I can see that my little aquarium is doing fine with its balance.

It’s a pity you got rid of the mulm. It’s the best fertiliser you can give to your plants, just needed some detritus or black worms to drag it down into the sand. A little creek water will introduce the micro-organisms to help break the waste down a lot more. My guess is the vase was overgrown so no light could reach the centre. Shrimp eat biofilm which attaches itself to leaves, and other hard surfaces, with no leaves in the centre of the vase you reduce the food source for your shrimp. You might also consider placing crushed up dry and hard leaves in the vase as well, this will feed the infusoria which helps to breakdown waste.

Thanks for the video - does the shrimp vase have a heater and a light, plus you said no filter, I’m interested in setting one up

Hi! sooo pretty. I'm wondering if u will ever have to replace the soil. I thought after a year or 2 all the nutrients are depleted and ppl have to replace the soil and replant the plants.
