Volkswagen has made some tweaks to their ID.4 Pro S AWD since we drove it last year, allowing James a chance to go over all the good, and bad that comes with the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S AWD.

Follow everything James is up to over on his Channel at @technicallycars to see his unique view of the vehicles he features here on PRN_TestDrive!

We had the chance to drive the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S AWD a year ago, the first of VW's new electric vehicles meant to be the EVs for the people. We had a few complaints about the vehicle when it came to cost cutting measures, but for the most part found this EV to be pretty spot on when it comes to what the majority of buyers would be looking at in terms of a new electric vehicle. Fast forward one model year and VW has made a couple small changes to the vehicle and changed up some paint colours.

James goes over the exterior design and features of the 2023 VW ID.4 Pro S AWD along with his thoughts on the vehicle itself. This Canadian-spec model is finished in Ice Grey Metallic paint, which is known as the Arctic Blue paint colour for USA-spec vehicles. The exact interior and exterior colour combination is not available in the USA.

We then go around the whole vehicle to discuss everything about this compact electric crossover and some of the reasons why this vehicle is a popular option for those who are lucky enough to get one. James jumps inside the 2023 VW ID.4 Pro to go over the interior design and layout along with the features and tech found on this top-end model with the optional Statement Package.

We then take the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S AWD on a real-world road test to talk about how this EV performs, drives, rides, and handles daily life in Canada, and the reasons why you may or may not want to consider this as your next car.

TestDrive is proudly produced in Elgin County, Ontario, Canada.

I find that our VW ID.4 Pro S AWD with 20" wheels is one of the best riding car that I have ever owned. Not sure what size wheels you drove but the ride is stellar on mine. Great ride/handling balance. Nice review.

If you do a quick double-tap on the “rear” button for the windows and then utilize the switches…..both front and rear windows roll down simultaneously on each side of the vehicle.

You do realize they are real door handles right? If you tug up with a little extra effort the mechanical door handle will open the door. Its a backup so if you have a dead battery you can still get into the car. Also the handle on the drivers door has a litte section you pop off to expose the physical key hole, again backup if your car or your FOB battery is dead.

One thing you didn’t talk about is the voice commands. I don’t know if they are ok in english but in french they are almost unusable. Got to fall back on google or apple to use commands but they dont relate to the car functions.

😂 I guess the driver of the golf r just got fed up with you and let you go away. Sorry but the difference in the performance of both car is just huge and not in favor of id 4.
Nice review though!

Talk about least effort!!.
So you MUST hold down the 'rear' for a couple of seconds to roll down the rear windows....and it bothers you?
99% of the time you will be rolling the front windows up and down. It is a smart move by VW.

When I go to roll down my front windows, most of the time, its the rear windows that go my elbows rest on the door handle the natural place for my fingers is on the rear windows. I get caught out most of the time with this 'feature' Good call by 2 window switches is nice.
I have already ordered the IS.5...cant wait.
You do know why the infotainment buttons are not illuminated dont you?
It is because the hand gestures to swipe across the screens use infra-red to work, and they cannot do this if illuminated. Again, its a no brainer. if you wan to go to a tile on the infotainment, while driving, it is much easier and safer by swiping.
As for illimitation, you will know where each button is located anyway, without the need for illumination. VW do stuff correctly, and have tested the system inside out.
I guess they have to play to the lowest denominator.

I wish vw made this same car without the electric nonsense.
It's a good looking car. 😢
