Live Irish Myths episode 71: Ireland's Lost Stonehenge - an astronomer's circle

In this evening's episode of MythFlix, I will look at a giant monument near Dundalk in County Louth that has been described as Ireland's lost Stonehenge. It was there in full glory in the mid-18th century when visited by antiquarian Thomas Wright, who is the only one to have drawn it, and it is thanks to him we know what it might have looked like. Sadly, this giant henge-like monument with concentric stone circles vanished from the face of the earth in the intervening period. For years, I have studied the case of Ireland's lost Stonehenge, and in recent years have found out something about what happened to it.

Fascinating! If only we all had ground penetrating radar on our phones, we could do some real crowd-sourced non-invasive archaeological survey everywhere! Also just image an augmented reality app for your phone with 3D overlays on a live camera image with models like those Kerem has been making to get a feel for a monument in the landscape with the surrounding hills and such. I use some apps to overlay sun and moon positions on the horizon for some of my archaeoastronomy investigations. Combine the two and investigations and experiences in the field could be greatly enhanced.

Sorry to double post but this has been one of my favorite episodes so far! Anthony, your research into this lost monument is fascinating! I was so inspired I finally put together one of many planned videos investigating possible alignments at megalithic sites and Carn Beg is now the first:
