This is by far the best video I found about this topic.. All the written articles arent doing a real good job with the exact command. You litterly spelling them out is invaluable to fix this. Thanks again :).

Dear Carla Wood, 10 June 2019.
I'm an 83 yo man living in Brisbane, Australia.
I have used GNU/Linux of various distributions. The last four or so years MINT, V14 and now V17. I installed from a live DVD KUBUNTU four days ago. I have never had the "GRUB RESCUE" before. I re-installed on various HDrives etc with the same GRUB RESCUE.
I found your video clip and it worked fine for me in the end. Four days later!!!
In terminal I did NOT type a SPACE at first. I had to choose a different HDrive, sda I think. Before that I chose another partition on the drive and received an ERROR MESSAGE, something about "....blocks..." Your video is great seeing the characters being typed in although I did miss the SPACE.
I do video movie editing with Linux Kdenlive and Bombono to make DVDs.
Thanks so much, God bless.

Thanks a lot! All other videos I found about "error: unknown filesystem" haven't mentioned to do 'update-grub' and 'grub-install /dev/sdX', so your tutorial is the most complete! First time after I rebooted my PC the error was there again, I figured out that I have to update grub, but I had no idea that I must re-install it. Thank you again! 😁

Dear Cayla Wood,
Thank You Very Much! I saw a MUCH harder solution, I knew that couldn't be the only way. This is easy and worked for me!
Thanks

For all those who keep getting error message: I've been researching a bit and have come to the conclusion that, when creating Boot media (in my case USB), you must select DD mode when prompted to use standard (ISO) or DD mode. It worked for me and brought me straight to boot interface.

It's fine if you just have one disk which is an MBR format. Might be a little more tricky if you have more than 1 disk which are formatted as GPT, or more than 1 Linux system installed.

It worked, I can enter the grub and Linux/Windows now. Now I need to make it permanent because that part didn't work for me. It says "Installation finished. No error reported" but rebooting it goes to the rescue mode again 😔
Thanks for this 👍
