Finally, someone saying something intelligent regarding governors.

As kids we would reach back on hold the governor open an the cart would roar to new heights, never blew an engine, just did it to get er going and let off when it was up to speed!

And that is how I blew up my go kart 40 years ago.

Two friends of mine had boys racing go carts. In the class that they were in it required a 5 hp Briggs & Stratton engine, had to be stock. Stock meaning you could not machine any racing parts for it or offered in any way beyond what the factory specifications were. They both had the same engine builder and they both told me that the engine ran best at 5800 RPMs, 300+ degrees Fahrenheit cylinder head temperature. Did they cook an engine and throw a rod every once in a while, yes they did but that was the cost of doing business. one of my friends sons was disqualified because they had to remove the head at the end of the evening and measure the height that the piston came up and his was .002 higher than it should have been. The lesson learned was, cool the engine down first, and it will shrink that much, at least.

I came back to edit some of the comments. The piston stuck up two thousands of an inch above the deck of the block, and it was supposed to be at maximum even with the top of the block him.

Or.... adjust the governor 🤔 I've been building and racing small engines since small engines class in 4-H club, right down to roller bearing conversions, mixing my own fuel and machining steel heads. My need for speed started at age 8, 48 years ago.

A good way to make a window in your block

You can put a string on the governor too‼️Those engines can be pushed to run at 5000 rpm with the governor bottomed out, but not long, in short bursts pull the string, it's like a booster. You can get tripled the speed and power out of it, the engine will need extra TLC though lol 😂.

I stretch the spring on the carts when me and my buddies go golfing.

Been bending gov springs, since the 60s, at the age of 8 yrs old. Some things never change.

I've shot the valves out the top of an old Koehler ohv doing that exact thing. just run for cover they come back down like darts.

theres no way to identify the engine from this video, but they max at 2000-3600 with a governor.
Youll also be limited to like 20mph regardless of what gear ratio you choose. So build your engine to over 9000rpm by going full billet. Mine makes 15hp and does over 100mph.

Just extend the con rod and raise the head. A bit of porting will help too.

You could wrap a zip tie around the spring, that's what I did, haven't blown a motor, just be careful

Yeah blow up mind doing that when I was young I was always trying to get more out of it

I can confirm entirely removing governor and flooring it may result in a new rod inspection port in the block

You can also put zip tie on the governor spring your Governor will still work I got a opposed to win right now running about 4200 RPMs stock is 3600 and all I do is play zip tie on the governor spring the actual weights of the governor are still applying Force
