Learn More about each New Synology NAS below:

Chances are that even if you have the most tangential interest in the world of storage, servers, NAS and data in general, you will have heard of Synology and their disk station series. Currently considered by many to be the biggest company in the field of network-attached storage, Synology and their Diskstation hardware and software are a company that is not quick to release new hardware – preferring to make the most of their existing hardware portfolio and then releasing software updates and improvement to their award-winning platform with regularity. However, their existing range of Synology 2-Bay and 4Bay NAS just got a massive shake-up for 2020 with the leak of 4 brand new NAS drives for release later this year. Great news for those of us who have been keeping our eyes peeled for news on the newest generation of Synology NAS, with a leak on the data sheets on the 2020 gen NAS – the DS920+, the DS220+, DS720+ and DS420 NAS. These new 2 and 4 Bay range devices are ones that many of us have been keeping a watchful eye out for, as well as the import/export documents that were leaked last week here on NASCompares, and although this is by no means an official or orthodox announcement, they look genuine and seem to indicate the release of the brand new range of Diskstation NAS for summer 2020. et’s take a good look at each NAS and everything we have learnt.

Thanks for this, your videos are highly informative, even when they're speculative!
I have a DS411+ and it's starting to show its age. Memory on the comparable model, the DS420j is apparently not upgradable, so the DS420+ looks like the obvious replacement choice. Would you agree?

Literally just ordered the older DS418, mostly for backup and file server duties. Now I have to decide if it's worth it to wait for this to come out, or just stick with the older, slower, cheaper, and available 418...

Very interesting numbers here.
I'm 'in the buying lurch' to get a 918+ literally this month, but this 420+ with the nvme slots and upgradable ram has me pulling on the purchase reins.
I upgraded my options from the other 418's to the 918+ (and came to accept the huge cost increase) because of this expandability.
Why would they subjugate their 918+ to the pile of 'why would I get this', with this 420+ in the works?
Even with the expected 420+'s added brand new shiny product pricepoint that will come with buying it,
I am still ... pretty much guaranteed to save money over the 918+.
I dont need Plex or the short list of other apps that wont run well on the 420+, but I want the expandability for cache and memory.
Do. I. wait?

Was looking to get a 918 or 1019. Looks like I'll be waiting a bit more and see how the 920 and 420 turn out.
I see a few of the models can have optional extended warranty to 5 years. My DS415+ died 3 months past it's 3 year warranty, so I'd strongly consider an extra 2 years warranty if it's reasonable.

So much info to take in for someone like me that only just found out what NAS means :) So advice if at all possible. Looking for a NAS the can be used to edit 4k and 6K video straight off on a 2018 MacBook Pro but also on another older iMac at the same time that is working on heavy photoshop photo editing. Need around 40TB storage to be used in raid 5.

As someone who just wants to store data in a file structure, I am most excited for this one. How much does SHR slow down writes when compared to that of a RAID 5?

Question: are the two nvme ssd in raid too, do we have the choice, or are they independent cache units?

Good job :)

Tempted to get this. Hope the pricing would be reasonable...

This is the one I was hoping for to replace my ageing DS415+, I don’t need the quad core or the 9 drive capability of the 920+, I just hope they get the pricing right.

Very tempted by this for a Plex server. Going by the Taiwanese prices it's only around £50 cheaper than the 920+ but we shall see if it's worth it or not.

I would love to see these with Red Pro SSD's instead of HDD's to see the performance difference.

1 Gbe is just so tired for a 2020 product. Really hope the consumers punish Synology for their cynicism serving up old tech for another year.
