Thats a huge thing that most people dont understand. Percieved speed over actual speed, id much rather think that im going fast and go slow rather than going fast but feeling slow.
This is why i enjoy smaller and lighter cars with manual transmission because you generally feel like youre going super fast without breaking the limit.
BTW really liking these short response/update videos!

I had a golf mk7 with dsg and I felt the same.
At low speeds, i hit the accelerator and the car didn't give a instataneous response. It took about 0, 5 to 1 sec and gave all the torque.
I prefer mine actual bmw 3 series with zf8. Instantaneous response and great driving experience.

Taking off from a stop sign / stop light in my new Alltrack DSG is such a deflating experience because I'm used to the formula of : press pedal = move forward immediately. Now with a DSG when I press the pedal - nothing happens, followed by a surge of movement. It feels like I am not in control of the movement of the car and that ruins the experience. This is especially problematic in stop and go city driving where I don't want to SURGE forward - I need a more controlled, finer movement.

I drove the all-new VW Polo (AW) 1.0t w/ DSG for four days, and I can tell you that the turbo-lag is very significant, and the brake is not linear either! (Difficult to stop smoothly.)

But once the turbo kicks in, there's amazing amount of power, no one would guess it's a 1.0-liter engine.

Yes, our s3 is major lag from take off in any mode. Also in certain circumstances it feels like it bangs into gear when the power engages.

Hey Thomas. Did you know VW UK are using a clip of one of your reviews in a promotional video on Facebook? You will be getting even more famous in the UK :-)

It's the DSG. I had that problem when I owned a 2011 VW CC with DSG and the 2.0T engine. If I remember right I think it was worse on a hill and starting out slow. I personally didn't mind too much because after first gear I loved how quick and smooth the transmission was.

I rented a Touareg diesel (I think it had 6 cylinders) from Sixt for 3 weeks last February. The delay was present in comfort mode as well—maybe even moreso than in sport. It was fine for the highway, but in busy roundabouts you risked either being rear-ended, or having to slam on the brakes when approaching guardrails or exits. Never got used to it.

The issue you are describing is only with the new wet clutch DSG7. Only few days between I drove Superb 280KM with the old DSG6 and Arteon 280KM with new DSG7. They feel totally different, VW worse of course. And the S3 is using the same DSG7 transmission.

Only thing I really dislike is the jerkiness at slow speeds on the 1st and 2nd gears in the A4 (B9) stronic.

I thought this was just me; I had a loaner Q3 S-tronic which was incredibly jerky in low gears - it felt like I was suggesting the car to go before the car decided to listen to me. It's not nice because you don't feel directly connected to the engine, plus it seemed to make reverse hill-starts when another car was parked in front a nightmare; you either got no power and roll forward or you rev-up and shoot backwards.

Nothing feel better than the Manual Transmission

I don‘t like kick downs at all with the DSG - my solution: Put the car with the gearstick to S and don‘t push it all the way down. Its really responsive, I like to do that at round abouts and when I obertake

I have an A4 2.0TFSI quattro with DSG and do NOT have this issue at all. Car accelerates very nice.... but I test drove a Q3 and it had a little power drop down on full accel. I also remember driving an S3 sedan (2016) and I felt a little drop down on the power also on full accel.
Nice review!

In traffic jams where you go 20 meters and stop DSG changes gears to second so fast that when you leave your foot from gas pedal car stalls a little bit and you can fell that fist gear ratio for DSG's are terrible.

I have the same issue with my Audi S3 but think it is okay, because I as a customer have the ability to choose between "feeling fast and driving slow" (drive select in comfort mode) and "feeling slow and driving fast" (drive select in dynamic mode).

I have the same problem with my Mercedes C 180 2013 coupe. It is a a serious issue, such a nice looking can with this bad feelings when you driving.
I thought the reason is a engine power but what I see in a comments is something different.

We've had a lot of DSG failures in Sweden, mainly the DSG7 in ECO fuel models used by taxi companies. This has caused a quite bad reputation of the DSG transmission, and it is one of the reason I did not buy a new Audi/VW, instead switched to BMW and their ZF 8HP transmission.
