The guy at DMV who helped this guy out is a man we all need to protect at all cost.

Whoever approved your car to be street legal, I approve him

Excellent, I'm so happy to see this car be allowed to run free. They say free-range supercars are much healthier for you then ones confined to a track.

I worked at Superlite Cars for about a year and a half. I've seen some go upwards of $200k. Was a beautiful car.

Great story Eric. Thanks for shedding some light on how that process works. Of course, it is tough to imagine a DMV working any differently than what you experienced here.

Your Cadillac converters didn't seem to work. It still looks like a kit car, not an Escalade.

Be careful about bringing your kit cars to Texas.  I had an out of state issued title to an Ariel Atom.  Registered & re-registered in Texas for 4 years without incident.  On the 5th year, it was denied renewal and Texas revoked the registration AND title.  They put a legal restraint on it so it couldn't be re-titled in another state.  The Atom was originally registered in Colorado, transferred to Texas, transferred to Montana, and finally transferred back to Texas when I purchased it.  If anybody is considering bringing a kit car to Texas, make sure it's registered to your LLC in Montana!

Fellow Minnesotan here...you just alleviated a huge concern I had about building a custom kit car. Thank you!

I bought a crappy 1965 Mustang which was correctly registered and smog exempt. I kept the 289 V-8 and registration/license plate, then threw away everything else.. I then built a Cobra kit/replica, installed the 289 (which was then a race-302) and hung the Mustang plate on it. The Cobra was, according to the State in which I registered it, only an old Mustang.

I finally found a reason to stay in Minnesota. I'm gonna build my own kit car with string seat belts and drive it around

The guy who built mine finished it then mo said they needed the title from the motor. So he had to buy a car from the junkyard swap the engine just to pass it then put the old motor back in.

If you guys could put together a podcast, I would totally listen to it. These stories are perfect to listen to and I’d love longer versions.

How do you wake up one day and just say “I’m going to build a kit car/race car from scratch” and then just do it and it’s comes out looking so good, incredible!

Thank Jesse "The Body" Ventura for getting rid of emissions in MN while he was governor.
