When it comes to sensitive skin and Azelaic Acid the introduction phase, application and tolerance is very nuanced, similar to using Tretinoin. Sensitive skin requires the user to go low and slow with AzA. Try using a lower strength (my skin can’t tolerate 15% but is okay with 10%), introduce gradually (ie. Monday, Wednesday, Friday or just once or twice a week), use a smaller quantity, use only once a day (very resilient skin can tolerate it twice a day), buffer with a moisturizer first, apply to dry skin as it slows down absorption (Facetheory advises theirs to be applied to damp skin while other brands don’t) and lastly, best not to layer any other actives in the same routine. Some mild tingling, flaking and pinkness is to be expected initially but burning, redness with lots or irritation is a sign to back down or discontinue all together. If it eventually resolves then it’s safe to increase frequency and quantity or just stay put. Always be mindful of your skin barrier. Less is more when introducing an active.

I've hormonal/cystic acne that causes hyperpigmentation and keloids, and my skin is extremely oily. I wake up looking like a greaseball! And have to use those Gatsby oil-absorbing strips to mop up excess sebum during the day. Just recently added The Ordinary Azelaic Acid suspension (on top of TO Niacinamide serum). My skin is matte throughout the day/night! No excess sebum! It is a little drying but that can be solved with a good moisturizer. Using TO NMF+HA or Differin night moisturizer. All based on Dr Dray's recommendations!

I have a super oily T zone. And flaky dry skin in spots. Started using Adapalene 1 year ago. No issues with irritation at all my skin would be able to take retinoid plus a BHA plus benzoyl peroxide. No issues EVER. I’ve been using Azaleic acid 15% for 6 months solid. No issues and my skin looked amazeballs! Until winter. Whoa. Out of nowhere I got hives, that itch! And stinging, redness and dryness. I backed off everything except my Procure Rosacare moisturizer, and Azaleic acid. Still my skin was mad. After never having an issue with irritation because my skin was so oily and used to any acne product. I can’t figure it out. So I’m going to back off Azaleic acid to 3x a week and see if that helps. Also stop the Adapalene I was using every other night. I will see if there is an improvement. I’m thinking the dry winter air and house heat affected my rosacea. Idk 🤷‍♀️ Sometimes your skin can react to Azaleic acid if it gets irritated by environmental and or emotional stressors. Out of nowhere. Who knew 🤦‍♀️?!

For meg Azelaic acid worked fine in the beginning then it started to break me out and also causing redness. The itching or burning was never an issue.

Niche beauty labs brand Theramid makes a 15% called AZID
15% Azelaic Acid Treatment. They’re from Spain but ship FREE to the US. Best AA I’ve used.

Azaleic acid works amazing on my skin! It really helped the texture of my skin, especially on my forehead. I used to have little bumps and texture but it quickly went away using the 15% gel daily.

Use on damp skin? Oh I've been doing it wrong all this time! Thanks! Any tips on using hyaluronic acid with azaleic acid?

Whats better for hyperpigmentation: azelaic acid, alpha arbutin or transexmaic acid? Should I try each and rotate them each morning throughout the week? Combine them?

When I first tried this stuff, holy crap my Rosacea redness disappeared. It felt amazing to see how my face looked without it. But that only lasted about a week and now it doesn’t do anything.

Started using prescribed AA two weeks ago and it does make your skin sensitive so be very careful when using it. I also experienced purging so I can’t wait to see how my skin will look once my little pimples are gone 😇
