Turning this 1959 Volvo into a CONVERTIBLE.. but first, we need to add structure by widening sills 🫡

if you missed yesterday‘s video, we are taking this 1959 Volvo 544 and turning it into a convertible. This car is a unibody though... so that means the roof is a big part of the structure. So before we can cut the roof off, we really have to strengthen the sills so that's what we’re gonna do in today’s video. We’re gonna widen the sill with 1/8 plate which is why we cut the bottom of the doors off yesterday. PS.. we tried something new with the intro, let us know if you liked it or disliked it 🙃

I love that you aren't afraid to tackle any issue. So many people feel that everything must be done by a professional. What do you think people did 100 years ago. They did it themselves. The world has become to reliant on others.

Great job Jolene explaining where we are going - Chopped Top - and why Chad cut the door off.

Hey there people, we are witnessing a creative genius at work. I appreciate what you are doing Chad, and Jolene is supporting him in his quest for something amazing. He is under no pressure from anyone, just his inspiration of what this is going to be.

Just a suggestion: I've been a contractor for a couple decades. I've worked with every kind of power tool. Angle grinders are some of the noisiest. You'll never know your hearing is going... until it starts going. So use ear plugs ...or some kind of ear covers (eye protection would also likely be a good idea). It might be a bit of a pain, and it might look a bit goofy...bit when (not if) your hearing starts to go...you'll regret not having made the effort.

the intro and insert update were both well done - I know it's extra editing work but it really made a difference in the video. Jolene's rocks as usual..

Pretty kool. Having Jolene explain stuff at the beginning was helpful. And wasn't that hard to watch!!:)

I like the concept of Jolene introducing the activity plan for the daily episode of Bad Chad.
I the sketch of the convertible definitely follow the lines of the late 1940's Fords.

Mr Hiltz I was studying the 40 ford tudor project for the past week to help me on a 37 Olds I'm going to chop and boattail the rear like the 37 Studebaker but I saw the trouble you were having with the wheel needing constant tightening I have the same roller and researched utube and the fix is simple leave the set screws in and drill a 1/4 inch hole all the way through and install a harden bolt that's how we fix the harbor freight model. PS I really like your show and the fact that this is your way and leave everyone to pick from what you do and mix with our ideas. you are awesome and that's from a 72 year old retired Fire Chief

I love when women pick up the skilz of their spouse, my wife can paint as well or better than I can, It was cool to see Jolene welding when Chad needed help.I hope it inspires other women to try new skilz they never considered before.

Chad, when dealing with a panel that slightly inset from where you want it, I found a pretty good trick. Take about an inch or inch and a half wide stock by a foot or two long. Then place the end bridging across the joint with most of it on the inset side. That is placing the bar so it’s sticking out away from the car. Now put a tack weld on the corner and push the lever down which will pull on the insert one whilepushing on the outside one until the panels lineup. Once they lineup place a tack weld and break the bar off and you’re ready to do it again. This works really well when you can’t push on the outer one but the inner panel is much more flexible but in either case it does work to line up the panels.
