It’s clear to me that the Sony is really designed for photographers who will shoot in RAW;DNG only. Sony does not really do computational photography. Putting this phone in a novice photographer will yield terrible results.

The way the Xperia 1 IV is treated here is like me giving my DSLR or mirrorless camera with modes beyond Auto and handing it to my mom to take pics and having it set to Auto for her to point and shoot. You missed the point of the phone's intended audience and instead made generalizations. Good job 👍 guys. Good thing you called it a blind test.

this proves what MKBHD blind camera test from years ago, where the brighter photos will almost always win

I agree with some others. You really can't compare Sony to the other two. Sony is not designed to be out of the box, point and click - they are designed for photography enthusiasts to utilize its software setting for different situations.

The sony gives you all the control over the settings directly. So I would've liked to see its biggest asset leveraged instead of the automatic mode which wasn't it's focus.

This is not a good and fair comparison - First, the 1 IV still runs pre-production software, whereas the other two phones have gotten multiple updates. Second, you can't maximize 1 IV's potential by just using its auto mode. The device is not intended to be used in this way. A lot of the scenarios with preference of brighter/darker exposure, you could just dial in some adjustments.

A thing I noticed super consistently is that iPhone will tend to destroy shots with a person as the subject while S22 Ultra absolutely kills landscapes and the environment

I know you've been thinking of getting a hold of some stocks, Yes you! I'm here to tell you now is a good time... Of course I'm aware the market is down but isn't that good for business? Getting in low and se1ling high, After all that's what it's all about. I've some picks for anyone interested 🧠

I realize if Sony Xperia's Camera is unlike other Smartphone. It works just like "Camera" that Photographer use

Hi all the team and thanks a lot for your job. For this kind of test, it could be interesting to include a DSLR image as a reference and try to find which mobile image is the closest.

I've never seen pictures like these from a Sony.
I guess there's a learning curve.
Because it doesn't work the way all the other phones do.
I know it, I switched from a 1 III to a 13 Pro. I take consistently worse pictures (according to me) with the iPhone.
Maybe that's because I tend to like my pictures more natural and less processed. And I still see that here.
I wouldn't be worried switching to a 1 IV.

the fact that samsung is planning to roll out most of the camera features of s22 ultra to all the devices upto note 20 ultra giving me chill😍

I like the test, BUT for me the comparison isn’t 100% accurate. The Sony for me has several features which can be used to make better snaps. Apple and Samsung are without a doubt incredible point and shoot mainstream shooters, the software is incredible. Sony are certainly aiming to the more creative and more niche market.

I think it's also important to remember that the Sony is still in pre-production so what we get here isn't the final result. Also, what we think "looks good" can also be subjective. Sony's traditional approach has always been taking pictures and videos as how we see in real life, not what we think looks colorful or contrasty.

I would even argue I prefer some of the Sony's night shots more because it's how we're supposed to see things at night, he even mentioned at 19:19 "he couldn't see anything" which was the point of the Sony looking too dark.

The iphone makes night scenes look bright, but in reality, the scene was probably much more darker and pitch black like how night time should actually look. 19:48 clearly illustrates this how the Sony and Iphone comparison is literally night and day. You cannot see the stars as clearly like how the Samsung and Sony did. 20:15 is a good example when taking it right with the Sony and how the night sky should look.

It just shows that we like automated things so much. I saw channels with the Xperia 1 IV and they were phenomenal.

I like how consumer-centric their opinions are rather than being professional.

Hey, I got 20 for S22, 14 for iPhone, and the food one for the Sony. Quick comments are that iPhones absolutely rule videos (maybe not slo-mo), as well as being the brightest at night. The Samsung does the best most of the time for selfies, and for detailed night time shots.

It's amazing to see so much respect for Sony in the comments! Watch videos made by professional photographers using the Sony. Amazing pictures and videos! Manual mode of course. The Xperia is for those who prefer taking a picture, a real one, without AI deciding how it should look like. Go ahead, check those videos to find out what the Xperia can do and AI can't.

I am wondering if you put the Sony in auto mode or did you drop it in manual. I would also like to know what your settings were. Trying to adjust exposure on the iPhone is very difficult. From the videos I have watched the Sony would win hands down. You are also not mentioning focal lengths and how those compare. I would also like to know what color mode you are shooting the Sony in. I know it has filters and different modes. Are they all just auto or did you select a mode? All of that would help me compare the phones. Otherwise, there are a few to many questions left to make this review very useful.

The Xperia gives off images that are similar to how proper cameras process images, which is to say that everything is as accurate to the scene as possible, whereas the iPhone and Galaxy are doing lots of heavy processing behind to enhance the images digitally and make them artificial.
Sony just gives you the untouched results right out of the camera and give you the option to decide how you want it to look afterwards through editing, while Apple and Samsung are already dictating to you how the results should look like and how it shouldn't.
