I am Italian and I have been to the Vajont dam several times. The dam is still intact, filled with the remains of a fallen mountain instead of water. It is a highly emotional place, even today after several decades. A place to remind future generations that human stupidity and greed caused a catastrophic event where many people lost everything, including their lives.

A man who was selling construction equipment to the project said that it was not a matter of 'if' but 'when' and that it will be the biggest flood since Noah.

The Three Rivers Gorge Dam's original design called for a dam that was three times the height then the one that was built. The dam was originally designed by a German engineering firm that had experience in building dams and their proposed safe design was rejected by the Chinese. They took it on their own to build a dam that will eventually fail. They later figured out that the dam is their biggest national defense weakness and would need to be drained prior to any military engagement due to the fact that should an enemy successfully attack the dam the resulting damage would leave the country unable to wag war. So if the Chinese ever start draining down the dam you know war is eminent.

A most informative upload ! Now governments need to listen to engineers, scientists who study all that was discussed in this program.

I’ve done this kind of work over 30 years if the public knew how the Bureau of Reclamation cuts corners nobody would live a hundred miles of some of these dams.

I heard engineers talk about the left hand side of the 3 Gorges Dam as the rock in the area is not as
strong as the other side - I think the water behind the Dam is backed up for 200 Miles - massive increase
in huge shafts 500" deep filled with concrete and steel - but the water will always find away to get thru ?

About 20 years back the state decided to strengthen and stabilize one of the local dams in the area. People screamed bloody murder about it, especially when it impacted traffic. About a year later a shallow earthquake struck under the center of the reservoir. Needless to say, the people complaining shut up after that. Dam safety isn't a popular issue...until it is. These stories prove that.

You would think after so many dam problems, they would stop getting in the way of mother natures flow!

Like was said before, the beginning of most Apocalyptic tragedy movies starts with politicians ignoring the warnings of the scientists.

There's some where I live - the last one I can remember being built along with the town which now exist there .
The othér earth damß are more recent, and I've no idea what the maintainnce is like with the younger ones . So far we've been dam lucky when earthquakes have struck as most of the earth dams remain intact .
All of the concrete ones are in good order, along with the Geothermal stations most of which are less than 40 years old ; concrete about 80 years, the earth ones, are all in-between .

Human arrogance and pride is always at the root of disasters discussed here. Countless lives could've been spared as well as those in the future.
