Keep in mind that if not industrially filtered, it contains small amounts of heavy metals. So considering the energy and time consumption for this, it's cheaper and healthier to just buy sea salt off the grocery store

For anyone wondering, yes this is safe to consume assuming the water isn’t contaminated and clean. That’s because unpurified sea salt contains minerals and other impurities. Typically, they need need to undergo a washing process with a Brine solution and then in actual bay water to wash out all the impurities so it’s safe to consume.

Since a bunch of people are talking about the contamination in the ocean, I will finally mention that. During the evaporation process, the salt crystallizes out and automatically leaves out many impurities behind in the brine. Then they pass the salt solution through ion exchange resins to remove certain ionic contaminants, like a lot of people mentioned, heavy metals. Finally there’s a bunch of things like activated carbon adsorption and Reverse osmosis to further remove contaminants like microplastics but I am not gonna go on to explain it because nobody will care anyways.

yeah, boil it for 10hours on high heat and then throw it to the oven for another 2 hours and you have 100g of a FREE sea salt which cost more than half a kilo in your supermarket. Magic!

Sea salt is not only NaCl, there are lots of other minerals that you don’t really want like MgCl which isn’t toxic but tastes bitter. Proper sea salt is produced in a series of evaporation ponds to purify the NaCl from the other compounds

Fun fact, in the dead sea, the salt concentration is so high it crystallizes in the water! You can sift through the sand for tons of salt clusters

Minus the filter cost, minus the gas/fire and the pot and stirring spoon, the dang oven and electrical bill, you get free sea salt!!

Unpurified salt is often considered less safe for culinary use, especially in areas where pollution or heavy metals might contaminate natural salt sources. Sea salt can also contain dirt, sand, or other foreign particles.
