If you have another container, you can fill it with salt water and have the plastic bottle sitting in it for further cooling.

This is wonderful. I haven't ever seen a simple distillation set up like this, and it just makes total sense. I never thought you could make salt water drinkable without a major operation. Thanks for the great information. We certainly should never go without a clean water source as humans knowing this. Too bad they'd rather clean our sewage for drinking water instead!

For survival you’d need to add a tiny bit of salt back, distilled water does not contain electrolytes and in a survival situation you’ll need those, other than that good idea.
