This video is so odd. The lack of accompanying text or voiceover (aside from location and name graphics), the way it hard cuts from the shot of Meng appearing to be happily (smiling and waving) escorted by police from her house (? I guess? From the context that makes sense, but at the end of the day its a shot of someone exiting a house and moving toward a vehicle), to the Huawei press release is quite off putting in and of itself, but then you got the guy delivering this "humanised" corporate response in the most robotic and measured way imaginable... I mean I get why not much can be stated on it, and I get why Huawei would construct such a PR message, but nonetheless this was a weird 48 seconds man.

As you know, the court function in resolving issues of jurisdiction is limited to the review of the allegations on the complaint and on the basis of these allegations, to the determination of whether they are of such nature and subject that they fall within the terms of law defining the court jurisdiction. Simply put, jurisdiction should be determined by not only the status or the relationship of the parties but also the nature of the issues or questions that's the subject of the controversy. It matters not that complainant's claim their cause of action to be one based on sanctions or fraud. The nature of a cause of action is determine by the facts alleged in the complaint as constituting the cause of action. The purpose of the law to governed it is to be determined not by the claim of the party filing the action, made in the argument or brief but rather by the complaint itself, its allegations and prayer for relief. Meng's lawyers cannot just simply say that their client is innocent and 'it is inappropriate for us to say specific comment on the ongoing proceeding' because they haven't yet seen the criminal complaint filed by the US
Government. What was on the records are mere photocopies of the indictment from the Department of Justice of
America. Without the complaint or conviction from the Federal Court of
Brooklyn, New York, the extradition court in Canada has no alternative but to dismiss the case at the outset for want of jurisdiction or for reason of prescription. And also, the statutes of limitation for extradition is 3 years. Since there's no complaint, the period of prescription continue to run. That's it.
