What is a Brayton Cycle?

Brayton Cycle is a Gas Power Cycle by George Brayton in 1870

For its diagram
Brayton Cycle consists of a Compressor, Heat Exchanger, Turbine, and another Heat Exchanger which is drawn as dash lines. Why dash lines? Well, you will discover it at the last part of the video.
Now you may want to ask, where do we use this cycle in our real world?
And that’s a very good question.
The common Applications for this cycle are the Gas Power Plants and Aircrafts.

Now let’s talk about the theoretical concept of Brayton Cycle with a reference to a Jet Engine to make it easier for us to understand.

But before we start the discussion, we want to note first that, in dealing Brayton Cycle, we assumed that our working fluid is Air Modeled as an Ideal Gas.
But that is not the case for Jet Engines, as Ideal Gas in real world does not exist. However, Jet Engines uses real-world air which is being treated as an ideal gas and follow the principles of Brayton Cycle.

Watch the video to find out more.

Enjoy and learn from this video on Thermodynamics about the Brayton Cycle.

I think in PV and TS diagrams process 4-1 must be denoted with dotted lines
Reason:At 4 the gases are exhausted into atmosphere and At 1 the fresh air is taken into compressor

WHen you neglect potential and kinetic energy changes, and make assumptions based on a closed loop format, when the Brayton cycle is not closed, and air is not an ideal gas, then your entire explaination is as negligent as the variables that have been ignored. May i say even ignorant! Nice video. But devoid of any useful real engineering information applicable to the real world.
