Mace Windu is a freaking beast

It's important to note Master Windu won that duel. He defeated Palpatine. It's Anakin's interference that saved him.

When i was 6 years old and watched the prequels for the first time, Mace Windu was my favorite Jedi.

Windu was closer to a dark or grey jedi in terms of his battle aggression, so much so his place in the order was questioned. The result of this was the development of vapaad and his ascension to jedi champion. One of the more interesting points of vapaad was not just using his own dark emotions to fuel himself but the dark emotion of his opponent, darth sidious, arguably the strongest sith in the galaxy. I think sidious underestimated windu and if it hadnt been for him banking on anakin showing up he would have died.

This book adds much more detail the fight. Like their internal thoughts and different perspectives while dueling.

The Novel expands the fight with more details. Both Mace and Sidious are very powerful. They had a very intense duel in the office. Yes...Windu matched and perhaps even exceeded Sidious in a lightsaber skill battle. Both of them moved so fast that even Anakin couldn't see them clearly. They were just blurs of purple and red. After A LONG intense battle, Sidious lost his lightsaber at the end. Windu was the better pure lightsaber duelist.

But you need to understand something. Windu won the lightsaber duel, but Sidious was NOT helpless. Even without a lightsaber, Sidious was extremely powerful. Sidious actually prefers using Sith Force powers more than lightsabers. Sidious only uses a lightsaber to mock his opponents. For Sidious, it's to taunt them and throw them off balance. To show that he's better than his enemies.

The Novel says that when Windu had Sidious in the ground next to the broken window, Windu was actually very tired by that point. Mace won the lightsaber duel, but Sidious was still very dangerous. He wasn't defeated. Sidious still had other tricks he could play.

Sidious still had "gas in the tank", and was ready to keep fighting with other force powers. Sidious even had other lightsabers stored nearby (which he uses to fight Yoda). While the long lightsaber duel had drained Windu. He had underestimated Sidious.

The Novel actually makes it clear that Windu had rushed to arrest Sidious with only half the council Members available. Windu didn't want to wait for Yoda and other members to return. Windu rushed in thinking he could end the war himself and with the few Jedi Council members nearby.

In my opinion, if Windu and Yoda had properly worked together, then Sidious probably would have lost. A full Jedi Council with Yoda and Windu working together is too much for Sidious to handle.

Vapaad has limits. In the Star Wars Episode 3 Novel, Windu was pushed to beyond his limit when facing Sidious. By the end of the battle, Mace Windu was exhausted and could barely move. But Sidious still had plenty of gas in the tank and was even mocking Windu before killing him. Windu even asked Anakin for help, and internally Windu was thinking that Sidious' powers were "beyond Vapaad".

Vapaad also channels the dark side energy of his opponent. So the stronger Mace’s opponent is in the dark side, the stronger Mace gets. That’s why he beat Palpatine.

This was supposed to be an epic fight scene.. but at the last minute George changed it and we got an unskilled man fighting an unskilled man and it shows!! Look up the deleted fight sequences from Nick Gillard!!

Mace Windu defeating Sidious means a lot.. if you see the clonewars and how easy he beat darth maul and savage... thinking about Thyrannos was very strong duellist, but he had his problems against Savage and Ventress. Sidous could easy defeat all of them. just master Yoda and Master Windu where strong enoth to handle him..
I am sure Windu was the strongest Duellist of his Timeline...

Windu is the best duelist from the Jedi when fighting a darkside force user. Against other Jedi he drops behind a couple of them, but that's not really what he would be fighting against anyway.

Indeed Mace Windu won the fight but also Palpatin didnt use his full power he felt anakin comin pretty sure if anakin wasnt there, the fight would be epic no matter the victor

I think it could have been used plot wise in revenge of the sith to further give explanation as to why Anakin legit believed the Jedi were corrupt.
We hear about it in the films but we never really get a solid reason other than the Jedi siding with a corrupt republic.
It could have tied into that scene more as to why Anakin had no problem cutting off windus arm. Anakin is not allowed to marry but certain members are allowed to decapitate people and use the dark side?
Well if he's allowed to toe the line why can't I?
I would also show that the dark side is literally addictive like heroin. And the explanation for the disfigurement and yellow eyes.
All those concepts are sort of explored in the expanded universe but never thought out.

To be honest, I believe than the vaapad it's not well done in this fight, does not look aggressive, actually I think this is the worst fight of the prequels, when it supposed should be one of the best.

It is always overlooked that Mace Windu had Palpatine beat. Whether Palpatine was just stringing it all out so that Anakin could witness it is another question, since Palpatine basically kills Windu instantly once he has Anakin.
