My Favourite Animated Movie Shots

Hello! Here are some of my favourite shots from a lot of animated movies (I couldn't think of all of them)!
This list is in no particular order. Please keep in mind, that these are just my preferred shots. If you don't see a particular shot in there, it's because I didn't think of it, or I just don't love it as much as you, unfortunately.

Here are the reasons why I love these specific shots in order of appearance!

I think it would take too long to go into great detail about every single shot, so I have done it this way:
There are three things I look for in a shot like these. Colours, Camera work, and the animation itself.

The colours are either pretty, symbolic, complimentary or used as a storytelling device.
The camera is interestingly set up, either as a still frame, or in motion. Some of these shots are picked because of a very specific camera placement I just find intriguing.
The animation is especially good, complex and/or unique.

So here are why I picked these shots:
Treasure Planet - Colours
Into The Spider-Verse - Colours, Camera
Kung Fu Panda 2 - Colours, Camera
Nightmare Before Christmas - Camera, Animation
Fantasia 2000, Colours, Camera, Animation

For your consideration: the shot from How to Train your Dragon when Hiccup is falling into fire with Toothless chasing after him, as the flames encircle them both

Lessons we can take from this:
1. Deep orange/red is good.
2. ARSON

One of my favorites is in Howl’s Moving Castle when Howl excitedly leans in to tell Sophie something and his hair slowly slides off his shoulder.

"What did you tell them?"
"I told them I would ask!"
"What is he blabbering about?"
"The customers are asking what's new."
"WHAT DO I TELL THEM?!"
"Well what did you tell them?"
"I TOLD THEM I WOULD ASK!!"

I like the variety here- some of them are good because of the moving, sweeping camera angles, some are amazing establishing shots, some it's almost solely because of how beautiful the elements in the animation is, the ice, fire, smoke, particles, etc. You've got some great taste

The music is so calming while 65% of the scenes are just fire.

Was kinda shocked "9" wasn't on the list at all. I don't know specifically why, but when I think of beautiful movies, it stands out in my mind.

But great video all the same!

I personally think Rango is in a league of its own. It’s not a movie, it’s a piece of art.

Thank you for including Hercules, I love that uncanny 90's cg/traditional animation meld.

Ok one of my favorite shots in animated history was when the paintings started to move in “Anastasia” (1997). It feels so chilling to watch ghosts fly around and dance, even more chilling when you find out what actually happened to that Russian princess over a hundred years ago

Honestly, the only shot I would add is in spiderverse when Miles takes the leap of faith, and it looks like he's rising rather than falling
