I was a cancer drug scientist and developer, and witnessed the transition from chemical compound random selection to rational drug design, raising the success rate and lowering the development costs tremendously. We made the world better. About 20 years ago, I was attending a theology class in graduate school. During the discussion on the wealth disparity, a student asked, “How could a just society allow people like Bill Gates to be so rich?”. The professor said, “What would your ideal society do?” He replied, “he would be jailed and his wealth be given to the poor.” I noticed that he had a lab top computer in front of him. The world today is so much better, making it possible for the young people to discuss philosophy in an air conditioned academic hall while they don’t have to do hard labor jobs.

I guess boomers could leave their money to some obscure charity rather than the next generation.
I got out of college in 1983. The job market was a nightmare. I didn't blame everyone else. Kept fighting until i got a job with a good company. These people need to toughen up!

Younger generation looks at boomers now and say how easy they have it. Own a home, car, vacation, retire early. BUT don't realize the number of years of sacrifice. Started small, worked their way up, invested in themselves, raised a family. This is boomers golden years, but many better opportunities exist for younger generation now. Younger generation will need to put in the sacrifice and then they will appreciate the journey and not complain about previous generations.

In every generation there are those who cry and moan about their life and blame others, and there are those who work hard and build the life they want for themselves and their family. It’s no different for this generation than any past generation. As a boomer I worked my butt off to be successful, as did my parents, as my kids are now doing. Success depends on your character, not your generation.

As a child of a Boomer, I see the urge to blame the Baby Boomer generation for many things. But it is not a rational argument. Boomers thought of, designed, built, and improved upon all of the technology and healthcare and creature comforts we enjoy and take advantage of every day. The youth of today just take it for granted the expectations of an immediate and instant gratification for whatever their desires are.

I never blamed the boomers, but do wish more would retire, giving younger people opportunities and sell their large empty houses. That dominoes down to the move-up buyer that sells a starter home to the 1st timer. There's a log jam. That is all.

There is a famous old quote " Maybe it ain't what it should be, but thank God it ain't what it was"

It's amazing to me, as a boomer also, that with all the information available, the 20-30 something's are so uninformed about reality.

Computers, the internet, and smart phones, all envisioned, created and advanced by boomers. How did we ruin things?

I’m 43 I work 6 days a week 3 jobs well over 60 hours a week no cable tv I understand the youths problem with the having no free time. You have to work all the time never getting the new car or travel let alone over seas travel. Everything is super expensive that you need to start housing is crazy expensive cars are the same. I’m fairly lucky I got into a 1900s home as it was all we could afford. I do agree it’s easier to get information now and if you’re lucky you can get into a position to own a home like me.

May I recommend a book "A generation of Sociopaths" by Gibner. This book provides hard data to support the thesis that Boomers have provided only for themselves and are leaving gaping holes and disasters for the following generations (social security, public and private debt, decaying environment, home unafforadability, lack of pensions, etc). I think that when one weighs the pros and cons of the BOOMER legacy the cons are far heavier. I am an old "X" er myself. My generation simply doesn't seem to give a crap.

This economy is significantly better than the one I graduated into in the mid eighties. No engineering jobs to be found. My son is starting a nursing job at 5 times what what my first engineering job did. Don’t even get me started on the quality of cars! Let the houses be 5 times at much !

I must say though - the 1960's and 1970's had WAY better music than what is being created today 🙂

Lest us not forget how easy it is to make money outside of a 9-5. YouTube, gig economy are things I as a 70s baby would never have even dreamt of and it certainly it was t available!
