Hunting Exotics with the .50 Cal Umarex Hammer

A key feature that has caught our attention while we field test the .50 Caliber Umarex Hammer is that it only takes about two pounds of effort to operate it’s straight-pull bolt, cock the rifle, and advance the two shot magazine. As with learning any new hunting platform, things don’t always go according to plan, and we put that magazine and bolt action to the test on a Sika hunt recently when Michael Wersig had to think fast to put the animal on the ground.

Before you even said it when you took the shot I knew you had hit him low and in the back probably just behind the lungs or just at the lungs you can see the projectile hit on the other side and left some dirt up. if you would’ve place that shot underneath the front shoulder he would’ve definitely gone down within a matter of seconds great Hunt decent rifle.

Damn, did the projectile go through the animal?

They are relatively powerful for an air rifle, but they are still only putting out about 550-700 ftlbs. Its more like handgun hunting. You gotta be dead on with your aim. I have taken multiple hogs with airguns and have had the best luck with lower weight projectiles that still put out 500 ftlbs but are moving over 1000 fps. I use a modified airforce. 45 pushing 260 grain hollow point slugs at about 1080 fps
